Job description

Company Overview

We are partnering with a growing custom integration firm serving the Houston, TX market, delivering luxury smart home and commercial technology systems including lighting control, shading, home theater, distributed audio, and integrated security. The company has been in business for roughly two decades, and while the business itself is well established, the team is in an active building phase, with a new Houston office opening this December and the business continuing to expand.

This is a people-led organization, and it was built intentionally that way. Ownership came up through the field as technicians and started this company to do things differently. In their own words, "the employees are what runs the company, so we're here for them." The philosophy is simple: every company in this industry does similar work, and the real difference is the people you work alongside.

Why Join Us?
  • Direct Mentorship from Leadership — The leader you'll report to is actively in a teaching mindset and wants to pass on two decades of industry knowledge and watch someone grow with it. You'll have a mentor invested in your development from your first week.
  • Genuine Autonomy — Ownership is deliberately hands-off. Growth here is driven by your willingness to jump in and learn, and leadership has committed to supporting every part of that. If you want to explore a new tool, platform, or training, they will explore it with you.
  • Real Work-Life Balance — Weekend and after-hours work is not expected of anyone. Time off is respected, and family commitments like a kid's ball game or a dance recital are treated as a priority, not a negotiation.
  • A Team You'll Actually Like — Everyone here is down to earth, and nobody considers themselves above any job. There's an annual company celebration with families included, and the team is adding a second mid-year event just for employees. The new office opening in December has a patio and a barbecue pit.
  • Ownership of Real Projects — You'll run roughly 15 concurrent projects across the full spectrum of scope and complexity, acting as the CEO of each one, with support from a dedicated procurement lead, a scheduling coordinator, and a quality control specialist.
  • Room to Grow — This is a growing company with room for salary growth and expanding responsibility as the team and the business scale.
Job Overview

The AV Project Manager owns the day-to-day execution of active projects from the point of sale through completion. This role exists to take operational management off the plate of the leader currently carrying it, which means you'll own field team scheduling, job site oversight, client communication, and project documentation, and you'll do it with real decision-making authority.

You'll manage approximately 15 projects at any given time, ranging from small pre-wires to multimillion dollar residences. You'll work closely with a procurement lead who handles ordering, a scheduling coordinator who owns client-facing schedule communication, and a quality control specialist who manages system handoff and client training. Your job is to see the whole board: what stage each project is in, what the field team needs to keep moving, what needs to be ordered and when, and what the client needs to hear before they think to ask.

The right person is what leadership describes as the "CEO of the project." You'll be a leader rather than a commander, someone people follow because they want to, not because of a title. You'll hold the field team accountable through coaching rather than criticism. And you'll be steady in front of demanding clients. This company works with custom builders, architects, and executives who do not want a yes man. They want someone who tells them plainly what's happening, holds their ground when it matters, and never makes a promise the team can't keep.

Responsibilities
  • Schedule and manage the daily activity of the field team, ensuring crews know where they're going and have what they need before the day starts
  • Build and maintain the project deployment schedule, translating project phases into concrete logistics for the scheduling coordinator and procurement lead
  • Coordinate project staging and inventory readiness so material is in-house and ready at the right stage of each project
  • Visit job sites regularly to assess progress, anticipate needs, and identify issues before the client raises them
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, builders, and general contractors once a project is underway, responding to every inquiry the same day
  • Gather accurate scope information for change orders, route them to the right team member, and follow up until they are resolved
  • Identify client wish list items and future needs during site visits and hand them to the sales team as opportunities
  • Document project activity meticulously in D-Tools and the company's scheduling and operations platform, and hold the field team accountable for doing the same
  • Give leadership clear visibility into project status without requiring them to chase it down
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience managing multiple concurrent projects independently, with the judgment to prioritize and make decisions without oversight
  • Confident, direct communicator who is comfortable holding their own with custom builders, general contractors, architects, and high-net-worth homeowners, and who never overpromises to defuse a difficult conversation
  • Disciplined documenter who keeps records current in a project management system and expects the same from the team
  • A collaborative leader who holds people accountable through coaching, and who is comfortable stepping outside their job description when something needs doing
  • Willing to speak up with a better idea or an honest assessment rather than defaulting to agreement
  • Comfortable working in project management software; experience with D-Tools is a plus
  • Local to the Houston, TX area, with the ability to be on job sites regularly

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in custom integration, low voltage, or residential technology
  • Background in the field as a technician or installer, which helps in supporting and troubleshooting alongside crews
  • Industry-adjacent project management experience is welcome, including construction, custom home building, architecture, or interior design project management
  • Ability to put together small quotes and scope documents
Benefits
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Health insurance coverage being introduced company-wide in the new year
  • Mileage reimbursement and a fuel per diem for job site travel
  • Company laptop and all equipment needed for the role provided
  • Support for exploring new training, tools, and platforms
  • Annual company celebration with families included

Compensation

$80,000 to $90,000 annually, depending on experience. This is a growing company with room for salary growth as the team and the business expand.
