Audio/Visual Support Assistant


Location: Durham, NC

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Contract: 5 months

Pay Rate: $17.00/hour W2


Optomi is seeking an Audio/Visual Support Assistant to join a collaborative team supporting conference rooms, meetings, and events at a leading organization in Durham, NC.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is tech-savvy, customer-focused, and comfortable working hands-on with AV equipment. You’ll work closely with the Senior AV Manager to ensure conference rooms are ready, meetings run smoothly, and users receive timely technical support.


What You'll Do:

  • Set up, test, and prepare AV equipment for conference rooms and event spaces.
  • Support in-room, virtual, and hybrid meetings.
  • Assist users with Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom, and other conferencing technology.
  • Troubleshoot common audio, video, display, connectivity, and meeting-room issues.
  • Provide day-of technical support for meetings and events.
  • Perform routine conference-room readiness checks.
  • Maintain and organize AV equipment and inventory.
  • Assist with live streams and meeting recordings.
  • Escalate more complex technical issues to senior AV support staff.
  • Provide professional, customer-focused support to employees and meeting attendees.


What We're Looking For:

  • 1+ year of experience in AV support, IT Help Desk, event technology, or a similar customer-facing technical role.
  • Hands-on experience setting up or supporting AV equipment and conference rooms.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and/or Zoom.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working directly with users and providing technical assistance.
  • Tech-savvy with the ability to quickly learn new equipment and technology.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Comfortable working onsite Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

Nice to Have:

  • IT Help Desk experience.
  • Corporate event or event-support experience.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Teams Rooms.
  • Experience troubleshooting microphones, speakers, displays, cameras, and other conference-room equipment.
