About the National Constitution Center

The National Constitution Center is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization devoted to teaching about the Constitution. Located on Philadelphia’s historic Independence Mall, steps from where the Constitution was drafted and signed, it serves as America’s leading platform for constitutional education and debate, fulfilling its congressional charter “to disseminate information about the U.S. Constitution on a nonpartisan basis in order to increase awareness and understanding of the Constitution among the American people.”

Position Summary

The Audio Visual (AV) Technical Specialist is responsible for the operation, upkeep, and upgrade of all audio-visual systems throughout the museum. Specialist maintains the Center’s theaters and exhibits, which consist of over 120 networked and integrated computers and over 95 peripheral devices controlled over 7 IP networks. Specialist may engineer systems for in-house and traveling exhibits by designing and installing sound, video, and control systems, and encoding AMX Netlinx and other stand-alone control programs; may operate equipment for live events, which may include, but is not limited to, audio, video, and/or computer presentations. May design and fabricate physical infrastructure components for new or modified AV installations.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Maintain various systems throughout the museum including, but not limited to: lighting, projectors, screens, monitors, computers, audio and video processors, amplifiers, and loudspeakers
  • Perform start-up, monitoring, troubleshooting, and shut down of exhibits and control room systems
  • Operate live sound, video, computer projection, sound recording, and videography and video recording equipment for events, including remote camera operation and multi-camera switching
  • Update and maintain video conferencing technology
  • Record podcasts and videocasts for various programs and events
  • Perform video and audio editing using NLE packages
  • Perform periodic preventative maintenance and fine-tuning of systems and components as required
  • Assist in training of museum, theater, and exhibit staff as well as part-time AV Technicians and department interns
  • Assist in managing the PC networks on which most systems are based
  • Design, program, and wire the automation, sound, and video systems for traveling exhibits and new systems within the museum
  • Design and build containers, cabinetry, and/or physical support systems for various AV equipment systems
  • Travel to remote sites to install, and de-install the Center’s traveling exhibits
  • Perform on-site troubleshooting and remote technical support for traveling exhibits, when necessary
  • Write technical documentation for new, existing, and traveling AV systems
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Technical certification including, but not limited to, ICIA Accreditation
  • Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) credential preferred
  • 2-5 years prior experience maintaining or servicing audio visual systems preferred
  • Experience with AV systems design, installation, and programming preferred
  • Travel required for exhibit install, de-install and/or maintenance as required
  • Ability to work weekends, evening hours, or holidays as needed and assigned

  • Various cabling and connection terminations systems for power, audio, video, IT, phone, and control
  • AV control systems and software such as AMX and QSC Q-SYS
  • AV over IP schema such as Audinate Dante and HD Base-T
  • Experience with basic lift devices (e.g. Genie lift)
  • Basic mechanical knowledge including a basic familiarity with hand and power tools
Physical Demands
  • Frequent standing and walking required
  • Must be able to work at elevated heights
  • Must be able to lift heavy equipment, fifty (50) pounds or more, on a frequent basis
  • May be required to work in a kneeling, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, or prone position for a prolonged period of time on a frequent basis
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
