Job Title: Lead Telecommunications & Low-Voltage Infrastructure Engineer
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Telecommunications & Low-Voltage Infrastructure Engineer to manage the design and delivery of mission-critical communication systems for large-scale enterprise facilities. This is a technical leadership role for a professional who can bridge the gap between initial concept creation and final construction administration.
You will lead the design effort for complex structured cabling systems, wireless infrastructure, and integrated low-voltage systems (including AV and security). The ideal candidate possesses the discipline to manage multiple concurrent projects, the technical depth to own the design process, and the collaborative mindset to coordinate seamlessly with BIM/drafting teams, architects, and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Design Ownership & Technical Leadership
• End-to-End Delivery: Own the entire design process, from preliminary feasibility assessments and conceptual development to drawing production and final specifications.
• Systems Leadership: Provide technical design leadership for data center facility systems, specifically structured cabling, wireless backbone, audio/visual (AV) integration, and related low-voltage infrastructure.
• BIM Coordination: Direct and lead internal BIM/drafting resources in the preparation of engineering drawings, ensuring design intent is captured accurately.
• Specification Stewardship: Author, modify, and maintain technical specifications for low-voltage systems, ensuring adherence to national standards and project-specific requirements.
Project Management & Stakeholder Relations
• Project Governance: Manage multiple concurrent projects, ensuring all deliverables meet strict timeline milestones, budget constraints, and quality benchmarks.
• Risk & Mitigation: Proactively identify and mitigate technical or operational project risks; manage the response cycle for RFIs, submittals, and substitution requests.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary point of contact for internal project managers, clients, and vendors. Facilitate pre-bid meetings, analyze RFPs, and nurture long-term technical relationships.
• Construction Administration: Conduct regular site visits to ensure installation compliance, troubleshoot integration issues, and review test results for commissioned systems.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Technical or Associate's degree in a related field; a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline is highly preferred.
• Experience Baseline: Minimum of four (4) years of active, hands-on experience designing or leading the design of telecommunications structured cabling systems.
• Technical Standards: Thorough, working knowledge of ANSI/TIA and BICSI standards; strong grasp of NFPA 70 (NEC) and its application to low-voltage infrastructure.
• Software: Familiarity with Navisworks for design review and clash coordination.
• Professional Credential: Must possess an active RCDD credential or demonstrate the qualifications to attain it within one year of employment.
• Project Acumen: Proven experience creating project budgets, maintaining schedules, and responding to complex RFP/RFQ packages.
Preferred Attributes
• Hands-on experience in the installation and commissioning of telecommunications systems.
• Broad exposure to other low-voltage disciplines, including electronic security and integrated AV systems.
• Ability to interpret complex field test results to drive root-cause troubleshooting during installation.
