What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Autonomous Vehicle Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Autonomous Vehicle Engineer, you need solid expertise in robotics, computer vision, machine learning, and a background in computer science or engineering. Familiarity with programming languages like Python and C++, as well as experience with ROS (Robot Operating System) and simulation tools, is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective teamwork set standout professionals apart. These abilities are crucial for developing safe, reliable autonomous systems that perform well in complex, real-world environments.

How does an Autonomous Systems Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

Autonomous Systems Engineers work closely with software developers, hardware engineers, data scientists, and project managers to design, test, and deploy autonomous technologies. Collaboration often involves regular team meetings, sharing technical documentation, and joint problem-solving sessions to ensure seamless integration of system components. Engineers may also coordinate with testing teams to validate system performance and safety, making effective communication and teamwork essential skills in this role.

What jobs have autonomy?

Jobs with high autonomy include roles such as remote software developers, freelance writers, and project managers, where individuals often set their own schedules and work independently. These positions typically require strong self-discipline, communication skills, and sometimes specific certifications or tools to manage tasks effectively.

What are autonomous jobs?

Autonomous jobs refer to roles or tasks that are performed independently, often with minimal supervision or direction. In the context of technology, autonomous jobs usually involve the use of artificial intelligence or robotics to carry out work without constant human intervention. These positions might include operating or overseeing autonomous vehicles, managing automated systems, or developing technologies that support automation. The goal is to improve efficiency, safety, and productivity by reducing the need for manual oversight. Careers in this field can span across industries such as transportation, manufacturing, logistics, and IT.

Job description

Are you someone who takes pride in a spotless vehicle and wants to work at the intersection of car care and future tech?

Moove AV is looking for a dedicated Autonomous Vehicle Detailer to join our depot operations. This role is a specialized cleaning and charging position, similar to a "Vehicle Prep" or "Service Agent" role in the rental car industry. You are the final line of defense in ensuring our autonomous fleet is pristine, powered up, and ready for our riders.

What you'll do
  • Interior and exterior cleaning. Wash, vacuum, and detail vehicles to a published standard. Sensor surfaces (cameras, lidar) require specific cleaning procedures; training is provided.

  • Charging operations. Move vehicles between charging stalls, plug and unplug per the daily queue, and flag charging faults (bad cables, stuck ports, low state of charge) through the correct escalation channel.

  • Sanitization and biohazard response. Prepare sanitization kits and disinfect interiors between trips. Respond to biohazard incidents (vomit, blood, spills) per OSHA blood-borne pathogen protocol. Full PPE and training are provided.

  • Digital logging and status updates. Track vehicle status in our fleet software and communicate readiness in Google Chat. Vehicles don't move until they're marked ready; accuracy matters.

  • Staging and handoff. Park vehicles in assigned staging zones and confirm handoff to the deployment team.

What we're looking for
  • Prior experience in high-volume vehicle cleaning, such as rental car, dealership recon, or professional detailing.

  • Comfort with basic digital tools — phone or tablet apps, chat-based communication, simple status logging.

  • Attention to detail that extends beyond cosmetics: you catch smudged sensors, cables not fully seated, or batteries below target, rather than missing them.

  • Ability to follow documented SOPs and escalate anything outside them rather than improvise.

  • Physical requirements: standing and moving for the full shift length, lifting up to 20 lbs, and working outdoors in Miami weather (heat, humidity, rain) in a partially covered lot.

Working at the Depot

At Moove AV, our depot is a tech-forward environment. While your primary tools will be cleaning supplies and charging cables, you will be an integral part of an autonomous operations team. We provide a structured, safety-focused workplace where your work directly impacts the rider experience.

Why Moove?
  • Competitive pay starting at $20.00/hr

  • Comprehensive health coverage — Medical, Dental, and Vision, including employer-paid plans with zero out-of-pocket cost

  • Paid Time Off to rest and recharge

  • Holiday Pay

  • Real room to grow — we invest in our people and promote from within
