As a leading developer, manufacturer, and global supplier of scientific laboratory products for 100 years, Corning's Life Sciences segment collaborates with researchers seeking new approaches to increase efficiencies, reduce costs and compress timelines in the drug discovery process. Using unique expertise in the fields of materials science, surface science, optics, biochemistry and biology, the segment provides innovative solutions that improve productivity and enable breakthrough discoveries.
Responsibilities:
Oversees the development, design, validation, and project management of packaging initiatives across the Life Sciences business. Projects include new packaging design, material conversions/down gauging, quality improvements, and sustainability improvements for primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging solutions. Packaging is for disposable plastic ware for cell culture devices, bioprocess vessels, glass ware, pharma packaging and liquid handling products used for drug discovery, bioprocess, and research.
Duties include:
  • Providing leadership and technical expertise to packaging projects
  • Functioning as liaison between the commercial and manufacturing functions with regard to developing packaging specifications, acceptance testing, and validating new packaging materials, equipment, and processes
  • Preparing new packaging design documentation for new products
  • Collaborating with packaging suppliers to ensure consistent material quality and to verify supplier accountability for specifications
  • Leading project resources to achieve required objectives
  • Providing packaging expertise to wide variety of business functions through project team participation.
  • Identifying and conducting due diligence on continuous improvement projects in packaging.
  • Approximately up to 25% travel is required as needed (mainly domestic; some international).

Location and hours:
  • Open to Locations: Kennebunk ME, Durham, NC or Tewksbury, MA
  • 100% on site
  • Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with flexibility as needed

Required Education and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science plus 3 years of progressive experience as a packaging engineer in the medical device, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industry.
  • Alternatively, employer will consider candidate with a Master's degree in Packaging Science 1-2 years of experience as a packaging engineer in the medical device, pharmaceutical industry, or life sciences industry.
  • DOE, DOE- Design of Experiments experience
  • ASTM and ISTA testing procedures and/or standards
  • TOPS Pro or CAPE packaging design software and CAD (SolidWorks) modeling
  • Experience interpreting drawings
  • Experience in designing packaging for automation

The range for this position is $84,873.00 - $116,701.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
