General Purpose

 

Directs the day-to-day accounting of the organization including overseeing the monthly and year-end financial close. This includes assisting the CFO with preparation of financial analyses, reconciliations and maintaining the Company’s work-in-process schedule. The controller will maintain the daily banking (including maintaining the bank reconciliation and monitoring all inflows and outflows through the bank account. The Controller will assist the CFO with maintaining the company's financial plans and policies, its accounting practices, the conduct of its relationships with lending institutions and the financial community, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports. The position involves supervision over general accounting, property accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, payroll, and budgetary controls, as applicable..

Duties and Responsibilities

·      Maintain key financial controls and develop, when necessary, improvements to help drive a strong and integrous accounting system.

·      Manage a timely month-end and year-end close process toward the production of periodic financial statements.

·      Maintain all monthly account reconciliations in support of the close process including the Company’s work in process (WIP) schedule for projects in process.

·      Oversee the day-to-day banking data (inflows and outflows).

·      Oversee periodic reporting and compliance with all payroll and sales tax payment and reporting processes.

·      Responsible for evaluating the performance of personnel in the Accounting Department. This individual recommends training requirements, has the duty to keep the staff at the highest level of skill necessary to meet company needs and objectives, and assists and advises if/when personnel will be hired or removed from the Department.

·      Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner with attention to “pay when paid” and taking discounts when applicable.

·      Assist the CFO with maintaining compliance with debt reporting

·      Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit

·      Furnishes internal reports, revises and updates reports to be more useful and efficient, and furnishes external reports as necessary.

·      Conducts periodic review of all accounting processes to determine if they can be completed with better controls, lower costs, or better efficiency.

·      Determines depreciation rates to apply to capitalized items and advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax revisions.

·      The Controller has an integral responsibility for providing effective financial controls for the organization

  Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, & Experience 

·       BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance or related major

·       Strong knowledge of construction accounting and percentage of completion analysis

·       5+ years of experience in Accounting Management

·       Excellent computer skills

·       Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
