Job description

14er Cannabis | Centaurus Farms Holdings
Controller
Boulder, CO | Full-Time | On-Site / Hybrid
ABOUT US
14er Cannabis is one of Colorado's original cannabis brands - vertically integrated across retail, wholesale, extraction/MIP, post-production, and cultivation since 2010. We operate under the Centaurus Farms Holdings parent entity (owned by an original owner of 14er), which also includes a Kentucky medical cannabis business targeting first revenue in Q3 2026.
The Controller will be the first internal accounting hire and will have responsibilities for all three of our entities: Colorado operations, Kentucky operations, and the Centaurus corporate entity.
THE ROLE
This is a hands-on, high accountability role reporting directly to the CEO. You will be the senior-most accounting leader in the company with responsibility for day-to-day accounting, and for building the infrastructure that supports a multi-entity, multi-state operator scaling toward its next phase of growth.
Your first priority will be a clean transition from our current outsourced accounting firm and establishing a monthly close process across all three entities that is reliable, timely, and audit-ready.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Close
  • Lead monthly close across all three entities - 14er Colorado, Kentucky Operations, and Centaurus Corporate - with consolidated and entity-level financials delivered by the 15th of the following month
  • Manage transition from outsourced accounting firm (MGO) and establish all internal close processes from scratch
  • Maintain chart of accounts, general ledger, journal entries, account reconciliations, and intercompany eliminations
  • Oversee QuickBooks Online environment across all entities, ensuring data integrity and structural consistency
  • Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting SOPs
Cost Accounting & Inventory At All Operating Entities
  • Build and maintain COGS models across cultivation, extraction/MIP, and post-production
  • Manage inventory accounting across all cannabis product categories - raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
  • Ensure proper inventory valuation, reconciliation to physical counts, and reserve analysis
  • Coordinate with operations on standard costing and variance analysis
Tax & Compliance
  • Prepare monthly sales tax and excise tax calculations across Colorado and Kentucky
  • Own 280E positioning - ensure calculations are current, documented, and defensible
  • Coordinate with external CPA on federal and state income tax filings
  • Ensure compliance with Colorado MED and Kentucky cannabis regulatory financial reporting requirements
AP/AR & Cash
  • Oversee AP/AR contractor (remote); serve as functional manager and own the output
  • Create and deliver weekly cash position and rolling cash forecast
  • Establish vendor payment terms, approval thresholds, and collections protocols
  • Mange banking relationships and all banking matters
Reporting & Analysis
  • Prepare and deliver monthly reporting package including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow by entity and consolidated
  • Support debt compliance reporting and noteholder obligations as applicable
  • Partner with CEO and FP&A Manager on budget, forecast, and KPI reporting
  • Provide variance analysis and actionable insight on financial performance
Kentucky Buildout
  • Stand up Kentucky entity books prior to first revenue - chart of accounts, cost structure, tax registrations
  • Own Kentucky regulatory financial reporting from day one of operations
  • Ensure revenue recognition is done correctly from first sale

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Required
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a controller or senior accountant role
  • Multi-entity close experience - you have done this before and can build the process independently
  • Strong cost accounting, and inventory valuation background in a manufacturing or production environment
  • QuickBooks Online proficiency; comfortable with its limitations in a multi-entity environment
  • Ability to operate without a CFO above you - you know when to escalate and when to decide
  • High attention to detail
Preferred But Not Deal Breakers
  • Cannabis industry experience, particularly extraction/MIP, cultivation, or multi-state operations
  • 280E familiarity and working knowledge of cannabis-specific tax positioning
  • Experience managing or transitioning from an outsourced accounting function
  • CPA license or active candidate
  • Familiarity with cannabis seed-to-sale systems (METRC, Flowhub, Distru, or similar)
You Will Thrive Here If:
  • You want to build something, not just maintain it
  • You are direct with leadership and flag issues early rather than managing around them
  • You are comfortable being the most senior accounting voice in the room

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Base salary: $140,000 - $180,000 depending on experience
  • Performance bonus eligibility
  • Health, dental, and vision benefits
  • PTO
  • Direct reporting relationship to CEO with meaningful influence over how the finance function is built

To apply, send your resume and a brief note on your manufacturing and multi-entity experience to [email protected].
