What are automation solutions?

Automation solutions refer to technologies, tools, and systems designed to perform tasks with minimal human intervention. They are commonly used in industries like manufacturing, IT, and business operations to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and lower costs. Automation solutions can include robotics, software, and integrated control systems that streamline repetitive or complex processes. By implementing automation, companies can increase productivity, ensure consistency, and free up employees to focus on higher-value work.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Automation Solutions, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Automation Solutions often encounter challenges such as integrating new technologies with existing systems, managing rapidly evolving software tools, and ensuring minimal downtime during implementation. Addressing these challenges typically involves staying updated on industry standards, collaborating closely with IT and engineering teams, and thorough testing before deployment. Proactive communication and continuous learning are crucial to successfully adapting to changing requirements and delivering effective automation solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Automation Solutions, and why are they important?

To thrive in Automation Solutions, you need a solid background in engineering or computer science, strong analytical skills, and experience with automation processes and protocols. Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), SCADA systems, industrial robots, and relevant certifications such as ISA or Siemens are typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and adaptability help professionals collaborate effectively and respond to dynamic project needs. These skills and qualifications are crucial for designing, implementing, and maintaining efficient, reliable automation systems that drive productivity and innovation.

Job description

RPA Solutions Architect

The Marlin Alliance, Inc. | San Diego, CA | Hybrid | Clearance Required

About The Marlin Alliance Incorporated in 2002, The Marlin Alliance is a digital transformation company dedicated to ensuring our clients compete and win in tomorrow's digital world. We specialize in creating technical solutions that allow for seamless execution of automated business processes and the generation of governed, machine-consumable data. From strategic planning to advanced analytics and cybersecurity, our team provides cutting-edge, cross-disciplinary solutions. We are seeking motivated professionals who share our agile, solution-oriented mindset and are ready to deliver the real, practical results relied upon by our clients.

Position Overview The Solutions Architect plays a leadership role in shaping the technical direction of our digital transformation engagements. You will be the connective tissue between client mission needs and the technical teams delivering solutions: owning architecture design, guiding technology selection, and ensuring our solutions are built to scale. This position supports our Navy customer and requires the ability to obtain a US Secret clearance. Work arrangement is hybrid; specific on-site requirements will vary based on client needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture design for enterprise-scale digital transformation and automation solutions, ensuring they are secure, scalable, extensible, and sustainable.
  • Partner with client stakeholders and internal leadership to translate mission objectives into actionable technical roadmaps.
  • Drive technology selection decisions and evaluate emerging tools, platforms, and frameworks against client and program requirements.
  • Own and evolve solution architecture documentation across active programs, establishing patterns and reference architectures for reuse.
  • Work closely with the VP of Technology Solutions and project managers to align architecture decisions with delivery timelines and budget constraints.
  • Serve as a technical authority and mentor for development leads and senior engineers, elevating the team's architectural capability.
  • Define and enforce engineering best practices, coding standards, and quality gates across programs.
  • Assess automation, data, and integration opportunities strategically, conducting due diligence to support build-vs-buy and platform decisions.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, and subject matter experts to refine requirements and validate solution viability.
  • Support proposal development and technical solutioning for new business opportunities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related scientific or technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering or systems development, with at least 3 years in an architecture or technical lead role.
  • UiPath Automation Developer Professional certification.
  • Demonstrated experience designing enterprise solutions across multiple technology domains (e.g., automation, integration, data, cloud, security).
  • Strong background in requirements management, technology evaluation, and architecture documentation.
  • Experience working within Agile and DevSecOps delivery environments.
  • Familiarity with PKI-secured systems and DoD security frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills: able to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • 5+ Years' UiPath experience
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science or Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with RPA platforms (UiPath preferred) or enterprise automation ecosystems.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including cloud-native architecture patterns.
  • Prior experience supporting Navy or other DoD customers.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, TOGAF, or similar).

Compensation $140,000 – $210,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Work Environment Typical professional office environment. Requires sustained focus, extended periods at a computer workstation, and occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities.
