Job description

Associate Automation Designer

A leading provider of custom scenic fabrication, automation, and painted scenery servicing the live entertainment industry is seeking an Associate Automation Designer. Location: Yonkers, NY. The Associate Automation Designer is responsible for implementing automation and control systems and software for a variety of projects in the live entertainment field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support clients and technicians using motion control systems in new and existing installations in shop and on-site.
  • Assist in testing, troubleshooting, configuring, commissioning, maintenance, and repairing a variety of motion control systems and hardware.
  • Collaborate externally with designers, technical personnel, and clients, as well as internally with other departments to effectively integrate automated effects into an overall production.
  • Design mechanical winches, lifts, and other typical theatrical machinery.
  • Effectively integrate stock machine designs into new installations.
  • Design and specify electrical control systems.
  • Develop and maintain control and interface software.
  • Produce shop and installation drawings of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Order materials and components.
  • Interface with the shop floor to ensure timely and accurate construction and maintain high quality standards.
  • Coordinate and maintain show-specific automation department paperwork to ensure proper deployment and field support.
  • Maintain or develop as-built documentation and O&M manuals.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years in the professional theatre or entertainment industry.
  • A technical production degree is a plus.
  • Experience with theatrical motion control systems, industrial control software, and/or industrial controls.
  • Proficient with TCP/IP networking.
  • Fieldbus experience, such as EtherCAT or CANOpen, a plus.
  • Proficient with IEC 61131-3 PLC programming languages.
  • Familiarity with Beckhoff's TwinCAT hardware and software a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Windows, Office suite, AutoCAD (Electrical a plus); Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) a plus.
  • Familiarity with NEC, UL 508, NFPA 70E.
  • Familiarity with IEC functional safety standards (SIL, PL).
