AUTOMATION ENGINEER
Location: Eden Prairie, MN | Hybrid
Schedule: Full-Time
Salary: $90,000 - $140,000 (based on experience)

EVS is seeking an Automation Engineer to help transform engineering workflows through software development, CAD automation, and system integration. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, building tools that improve efficiency, and bridging the gap between engineering and technology.

You'll play a key role in developing custom CAD solutions, integrating engineering systems, and creating scalable tools that help engineers and designers work smarter across renewable energy and infrastructure projects.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance custom CAD commands, plug-ins, ribbon tools, and automation solutions using AutoCAD APIs and related technologies.
  • Modernize engineering workflows through automation of repetitive drafting and design tasks.
  • Build solutions for data-driven geometry generation, block conversions, attribute validation, label rendering, and geometry-based quality checks.
  • Standardize design templates, parameters, and engineering data libraries through scalable automation frameworks.
  • Apply software development best practices including testing, version control, documentation, and release management.
  • Develop integrations between CAD environments and EVS internal platforms, databases, and engineering systems.
  • Support APIs, data pipelines, and data exchange workflows that connect engineering design tools with reporting, analytics, and digital platforms.
  • Translate engineering and design workflows into reliable automation tools that maintain accuracy and revision control.
  • Support the integration of CAD environments with AI-enabled applications and internal innovation initiatives.
  • Identify inefficiencies within engineering and drafting workflows and develop scalable solutions to improve productivity.
  • Lead pilot testing, implementation, documentation, and rollout of new automation tools.
  • Gather feedback from engineers and designers to continuously improve user adoption and tool effectiveness.
  • Serve as an internal subject matter expert for CAD automation and engineering technology solutions.
  • Provide training and support to engineers and designers on automation tools and best practices.
  • Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives within the innovation team.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience developing CAD automations, custom plug-ins, or engineering software tools.
  • Experience building solutions within AutoCAD or similar CAD environments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD APIs and at least one of the following technologies:
    • .NET (C# or VB.NET)
    • AutoLISP
    • C++
    • CAD-related software development frameworks
  • Working knowledge of Python and SQL for automation, scripting, and data management.
  • Experience with Git, GitHub, and software development best practices including testing and documentation.
  • Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools such as Copilot, Cursor, Claude, Gemini, or similar platforms.
  • Experience within engineering, AEC, infrastructure, consulting, or technical environments strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Civil 3D preferred.
  • Experience integrating CAD systems with external applications, databases, APIs, or file-based workflows preferred.
  • Exposure to GIS and geospatial technologies such as QGIS, PostGIS, GeoPandas, or Shapely is a plus.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other data visualization platforms is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
