Job description

Mechanical Design Engineer – Zeeland, Michigan

DISHER is currently looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with design experience, preferably in SolidWorks, NX, or Inventor. As a part of the team, you will get to partner with a variety of customers on design projects, including new product design and launch, automation equipment design, and industrial equipment design. You will work directly on customer projects and collaborate cross-functionally with various teams. We are looking for someone who is energized by innovation and problem-solving.

What it's like to work here:

Make a positive difference! It’s why we exist. We are always looking for teammates who are eager to use their diverse set of talents with our customers, coworkers, and communities. We want to leave this world better than we found it.

Enjoy coming to work! 98% of our team say DISHER is a great place to work. It’s not just the innovative projects we work on— it’s the way we care about each other and cheer each other on. Our positive culture can be seen in our surprise nerf gun attacks, sports teams and hobby groups, Friday all-team lunches, and community projects.

Grow with us! Your personal development matters to us. We have a growing team of diverse skill sets, passions, and capabilities who like to share their knowledge through mentoring, subject matter communities, DISHER University classes, and collaborative projects.

What you will get to do:
  • Work on a variety of equipment and other design engineering projects.

  • Design automation equipment and sellable industrial (non-automation) equipment.

  • Occasionally support equipment troubleshooting and improvements.

  • Design, prototype, test, and document mechanical designs for new product development.

  • Engage with customers and vendors on-site, providing technical leadership and building strong relationships.

  • Lead design reviews and guide technical decision-making across projects.

  • Estimate technical tasks, timelines, and project scope for customer engagements.

  • Contribute to and improve internal engineering tools, processes, and best practices.

  • Support business development through technical input on proposals and customer discussions.

  • Mentor entry-level engineers and contribute to developing team capabilities and consulting excellence.

  • Participate in DISHER internal projects and stewardship teams.

What will make you successful:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

  • 5 - 10 years of relevant engineering and design experience.

  • Experience in CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, NX, or Inventor.

  • Experience with complicated conceptual designs vs. simple complete designs.

  • Familiarity with systems and subsystems.

  • Openness to trying new things, failing fast, and an excitement for designing new things.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and comfortable operating in ambiguity and shaping undefined requirements.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work directly with customers and cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to document work thoroughly and communicate technical concepts effectively.

  • Ability to interpret and anticipate customer needs and think of the bigger picture.

  • Independent worker with the understanding of when to ask for help.

  • Ability to travel to local customer sites is essential; occasional domestic travel.

  • Must have the current and continuing right to work in the United States of America without restrictions or expirations.
