Job Summary:
About the Building Automation Control Specialist:
The Building Automation Control Specialist is a part of the Digital Controls Shop within the Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M). This role's primary expectation is to support the campus' building automation network infrastructure, Digital Controls Shop managers, and other senior technicians and trades staff.
Daily tasks will include high level programming, service, installation, as well as operating the shop technical service phone line. This position requires a high level of building operation knowledge relating to a wide variety of BAS, temperature/humidity controls, utility distribution, HVAC systems and IT and data communications.
Additional Information:
This position may require working in or around animal facilities on campus. Those working in or around animal facilities are required to complete an annual safety training and personnel medical evaluation form to gain clearance. Some areas have additional requirements for entry, including a TB test with negative results and measles titer test. We will provide training that will address hazards as well as how to safely perform job duties by, for example, following signage and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Full-Time: 100% FTE
Hours generally scheduled onsite Monday through Friday, 7:30AM to 4:00PM. Occasional nights, weekends and holidays may be required for this position.
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Creates, verifies, and updates point databases and programmable logic schemes and troubleshoots and resolves database issues.
  • Monitors, tests, maintains, and repairs electronic and pneumatic building control systems components and related mechanical equipment
  • Operates the service desk, identifying, troubleshooting, triaging, and escalating system functionality and field issues
  • Assists the Digital Controls Shop managers and senior technicians in database and standardization efforts including, alarms, trends, and field point naming
  • Monitors and configures critical system alarms and their routing. Sets-up historical data capturing and totalization for archiving to data historian servers
  • Coordinates, manages, implements and/or performs technical product support for a wide range of BAS systems and components
  • Engineers control sequences for new installations and system upgrades
  • Sets up and configures workstations, user interfaces, data servers, networking devices, protocols, routers, switches, mass storage devices, gateways, and/or hubs for BAS functionality
  • Assists in maintaining the campus' control drawings library
  • Develops, modifies, and tests software programs for BAS systems
  • Assists senior technician in service repairs, small installations, and system upgrades.
  • Commissions and provides contractor oversight for new and existing BAS installations and modifications

Compensation:
$90,000 annual minimum
The minimum rate for this position is $$90,000 annually, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
  • 5 years of experience in the field of building automation with a focus with installation and field service
  • Driver's License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in troubleshooting computers and/or networks
  • Experience in HVAC
  • 5 years experience with any of the following platforms is a plus: Johnson Controls (MSEA, UI, MUI) Automated Logic (WebCTRL, Eikon, Graphic Tool) Niagara (Pheonix Lab Controls, WorkBench)

Education:
  • Associate's Degree Required; focus in building maintenance, building automation, or related field
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred; in building automation, mechanical engineering, data analytics, or related field
