Job description

Are you looking for more than just an internship? At Bland, Nebraska's first Employee-Owner (ESOP) CPA Firm, interns are treated as part of the team from day one. Our employee-owners are passionate about helping clients succeed, collaborating with one another, and creating an environment where people can learn, grow, and enjoy the work they do.
As an Audit & Assurance Intern, you'll work with our audit teams on real client engagements, gaining practical exposure to core audit procedures, data analysis, and day-to-day engagement work in a collaborative environment.
OUR PERKS
  • Award Winning Culture: "Best Place to Work", "Excellence in Firm Culture", "Best CPA Firm for Women and Best CPA Firm for Equity Leadership".
  • Growth Opportunities: 18-month internal leadership program (BLING), Staff Advisory Board, Bland Cares, and cross-functional training opportunities mean your voice matters!
  • People-First Leadership: An environment where leaders are approachable, empathetic, authentic, and invested in the success and well-being of every team member.

YOUR ROLE
  • Client & Engagement Support: Assist audit teams with testing key financial statement accounts, identify potential issues and communicate observations to senior team members, prepare and maintain organized workpapers in line with professional standards, and participate in walkthroughs to understand client processes and internal controls.
  • Data & Technical Work: Gain exposure to core audit procedures by working on real engagements, use Excel and other tools to analyze data and prepare supporting schedules, perform analytical reviews to identify trends or variances, support reconciliations and other detail-oriented tasks, and build technical knowledge through independent learning and on-the-job experience.
  • Collaboration & Professional Development: Work closely with staff, managers, and partners across service areas, balance multiple assignments while meeting deadlines and quality expectations, demonstrate initiative and the ability to contribute independently and in team settings, and participate in training opportunities to deepen audit and professional skills.

YOUR SKILLS
  • Knowledge: Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field. Possess a minimum of a 3.0 GPA or higher. Experience in a CPA firm or professional services environment preferred.
  • Skills: Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. Adaptability, curiosity, and a willingness to dive into new challenges. High attention to detail and a commitment to quality work. Training is provided, but this role also requires initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to learn independently.
  • Ability: This role is located at our office in Omaha, NE. Must be available to work 25-30 hours per week during the summer (between the hours of Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) and at least 20 hours per week during the fall semester.
  • Candidates must pass a background check as part of the hiring process. Performance is evaluated based on the proficiency and effectiveness of task completion, including the quality of work, application of performance, accounting knowledge, and the ability to meet time constraints.

Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, pregnancy, genetic information, disability, status as a protected veteran, or any other protected category under applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Why Bland & Associates
We believe interns should gain real-world exposure, not busywork. You'll work on meaningful assignments, build relationships with experienced professionals, and see firsthand what it takes to succeed in a dynamic CPA firm. Many of our interns continue on to full-time roles, equipped with the practical knowledge and confidence developed during the program.
