They may also check the credentials of a buyer, coordinate deliveries from a dealer, appraise items, describe the merchandise in a way that encourages bidding, and ensure the momentum of an auction continues. An auctioneer may specialize in a particular area, such as auctioning off art, vehicles, gemstones, or other luxury products. Specialization typically requires additional training or certification, as well as the ability to find and memorize accurate information about a product. Many states require auctioneers to have a license, and other relevant professional certifications are available.
