Atrium Health, one of the nation's most comprehensive public, not-for-profit healthcare systems, is actively recruiting an experienced Critical Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join Atrium Health Pineville. This rapidly growing 394-bed community hospital is located in Pineville, NC, just 14 miles south of Charlotte near the South Carolina border.
This role is part of a highly skilled critical care team dedicated to delivering world-class, comprehensive care to critically ill and injured patients across multiple specialty intensive care units.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide daily management and documentation of complex, critically ill medical and surgical patients
  • Deliver care across multiple specialty ICUs, including:
    • Cardiac Medical ICU
    • Cardiothoracic Surgical ICU
    • Medical ICU
    • Surgical ICU
  • Admit and manage patients directly from the operating room and interventional cardiac lab
  • Manage post-operative cardiac surgery patients and hemodynamically complex cases
  • Collaborate closely with intensivists and interdisciplinary care teams
  • Utilize and manage mechanical circulatory support devices (e.g., IABP, Impella)
  • Perform procedures such as central venous and arterial line placement (preferred)
Qualifications
Required:
  • Graduate of an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program
  • Nurse Practitioners:
    • Master's or Doctorate in Nursing Practice
    • Current ACNP certification from a nationally recognized certifying body
  • Physician Assistants:
    • Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Active North Carolina license
  • North Carolina DEA certification
  • BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and critical thinking skills
Preferred:
  • Postgraduate ICU fellowship
  • Prior ICU experience as an NP or PA
  • Candidates with significant, recent ICU RN experience will be considered
  • Experience with invasive procedures (central lines, arterial lines)
Work Environment & Schedule
  • 100% inpatient, adult patient population
  • 24/7 coverage with a shift-based model
  • 13-hour shifts:
    • Days: 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM
    • Nights: 6:00 PM - 7:00 AM
  • Includes weekends and holidays
  • Site includes an Advanced Practice Provider Critical Care Fellowship program
