Every product we make and every task we undertake is inspired by the famous words of our founder, Gert Boyle: "It's perfect. Now make it better." As pioneers of relentless improvement, we are constantly evolving.

We believe the outdoors is ours to protect, and we're committed to keeping our planet healthy. We believe in empowering people to explore the outdoors to the fullest.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Although we're an apparel and footwear-focused company, technology is central to everything we do. Columbia Sportswear's Digital Technology (CDT) group enables an IT infrastructure and applications across four global brands, a global supply chain, and 500+ geographically dispersed stores. These teams support in-store, mobile, and data platforms to enhance customer interface and service in an ever-evolving industry.

We are seeking an experienced Atlassian Engineer to design, implement, and maintain our Atlassian ecosystem (Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, and related tools). This role will ensure that the Atlassian platform scales effectively across engineering, IT, and business teams by enabling collaboration, process automation, and operational excellence.

The ideal candidate has deep Atlassian administration expertise, a strong understanding of agile/ITSM practices, and the ability to translate business requirements into scalable, efficient solutions.

HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Administration & Configuration: Manage, configure, and optimize Atlassian tools (Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, and add-ons).
  • Workflow & Process Design: Partner with stakeholders to design and implement Jira workflows, custom fields, permissions, automation rules, and reporting that align with agile and ITSM best practices.
  • Platform Integrations: Build and support integrations with other enterprise systems (CI/CD, identity management, monitoring, collaboration, CMDB, and analytics platforms).
  • Governance & Standards: Develop and enforce best practices for tool usage, data integrity, and platform scalability.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Create dashboards, reports, and metrics to measure performance, delivery efficiency, and service health.
  • Automation & Scripting: Leverage Jira Automation, APIs, and other tools to reduce manual work and streamline processes.
  • Support & Enablement: Act as a subject matter expert, provide tier-3 support for Atlassian-related issues, and enable teams through documentation and training.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with Atlassian product roadmap, recommend new features, and lead upgrades/migrations when needed.

YOU ARE

  • Atlassian Ecosystem Mastery - Skilled across Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, and marketplace apps.
  • Integration Mindset - Can connect Atlassian with CI/CD, monitoring, identity, and collaboration tools.
  • Automation First - Looks to streamline workflows with Jira Automation, ScriptRunner, and APIs instead of manual steps.
  • Scalability Awareness - Designs solutions that work across teams, not just for one-off requests.
  • Agile Fluency - Understands Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, or scaled agile models and how Jira supports them.
  • ITSM Knowledge - Comfortable with ITIL practices (incident, change, problem, request) and how JSM implements them.
  • Governance Mindset - Balances flexibility for teams with structure and consistency across the enterprise.
  • Business Translator - Can take vague requirements and turn them into concrete Jira/Confluence solutions.
  • Facilitator - Works well with engineering, IT, and business teams to align workflows with outcomes.
  • Continuous Improver - Always looking for inefficiencies in workflows or service processes and proposing fixes.
  • Problem Solver - Investigates platform issues methodically and recommends pragmatic solutions.
  • Detail-Oriented - Notices inconsistencies in data, permissions, or configurations that could cause future problems.
  • Adaptable - Thrives in environments where Atlassian usage is expanding and requirements change quickly.
  • Proactive - Doesn't just maintain the platform but actively champions new features and best practices.

YOU HAVE

  • 3-5 years of experience administering and configuring Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management).
  • Strong understanding of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and/or ITIL practices.
  • Proficiency in Jira workflow design, custom fields, permissions, boards, and dashboards.
  • Experience with scripting or APIs (e.g., Groovy, REST, Python, PowerShell).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to manage complex technical environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred:

  • Atlassian certifications (ACP-620, ACP-120, ACP-420).
  • Familiarity with DevOps or ITSM toolchains (GitHub, Jenkins, PagerDuty, etc.)
