Our Technology team has 6 different departments: Information Security, Service Delivery, Business Enabling Systems, eCommerce & Marketing Technology, Data and Stores, Services & Supply Chain.

Whether it’s online or in our stores, the work that the IT team does is instrumental in PetSmart’s success. We have a strategic and actionable plan underway and are looking for associates who are just as excited about it as we are.

Collaborative Work Environment:

This role works in our Phoenix Home Office.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this role. Sr Software Engineer (DevOps)Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our PetSmart Technology team. This role plays a key part in enabling secure, scalable, and reliable API delivery across technology.

The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience with Apigee, along with strong software engineering and DevOps expertise. This team member will partner closely with engineering teams to guide API design, support application development and ensure platform alignment throughout the software delivery lifecycle.  

Key responsibilities
  • Serve as the Apigee and API platform SME, providing guidance, standards and best practices to engineering teams across technology.
  • Manage and support the Apigee platform, including configuration, policy development, routing, security, traffic management and monitoring.
  • Ensure API platform stability, scalability, performance and security
  • Lead troubleshooting and incident response for Apigee and platform level API issues, driving root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Provide hands-on support across development, testing and production environments.
  • Integrate Apigee with GCP services, CI/CD tooling, and automation frameworks.
  • Collaborate with engineering and infrastructure teams to automate provisioning, deployments and platform ops.
  • Support observability, monitoring, and logging for APIs and platform services.
  • Promote best practices in API management, DevOps, security and cloud ops.
Qualification & Skills
  • 4+ years of experience in software engineering, API platform, or DevOps roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Apigee (proxy development, policies, security, routing, troubleshooting) and working knowledge of JavaScript, Python, or C# to support API policies, automation, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience supporting enterprise scale API platforms.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD concepts with pipeline implementation experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively across teams.

Preferred:

  • Experience with API development
  • Kubernetes experience (GKE preferred)
  • Experience with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD tools.
  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools
  • Experience with API gateways, service mesh and modern API practices
