Job description

MATA Position Overview:

The Media and Technology Assistant (MATA) supports the school's library media program and technology infrastructure to promote student success. This role assists the Media Coordinator in managing the School Library Media Center by providing instructional, technical, and clerical support. The MATA helps maintain an engaging, resource-rich learning environment and ensures efficient organization, access to materials, and basic technology support for students, staff, and families. This position requires strong organizational skills, technical proficiency, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic school setting.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Professional Conduct

  • Demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and a strong work ethic
  • Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with students, staff, and families
  • Support the school's Media and Technology Advisory Committee (MTAC)
  • Uphold ethical standards and maintain confidentiality
  • Adapt to change and accept supervision constructively
  • Exhibit a positive attitude, strong customer service skills, and attention to detail

2. Learning Environment Support

  • Help manage and maintain a well-organized, accessible, and welcoming library media space
  • Prepare displays, bulletin boards, seasonal decorations, promotional materials, and book fairs
  • Shelve materials and maintain order and accessibility of resources
  • Assist patrons in locating print and digital resources
  • Assist with scheduling, equipment use, and space organization
  • Assist with cataloging and processing new print and non-print materials (such as unpacking, checking invoices, importing or creating records, and labeling)
  • Assist with preparing reports, correspondence, flyers, and instructional materials
  • Oversee student media helpers

3. Device Management & Technology Support

  • Perform Tier 1 troubleshooting for student and staff devices (e.g., login issues, connectivity, device resets, wireless access)
  • Assist with technology tickets and basic technical support requests
  • Conduct minor equipment repairs (device troubleshooting, replacing printer cartridges, projector bulbs, laminator film, poster printer supplies)
  • Support basic setup of AV and technology equipment (laptops, projectors, document cameras, viewsonic panels, etc.)
  • Use technology platforms such as Google Suite, Destiny, and One to One Plus for device and collection tracking
  • Utilize digital tools (email, Google Sheets, Google Docs, etc) to track and communicate information

4. Instructional Support

  • Assist the Media Coordinator in planning and implementing instructional activities
  • Support library media learning experiences, including small group instruction and read-alouds
  • Monitor students and support engagement in the media center
  • Support circulation processes, including running reports and assisting at the circulation desk
  • Pull and prepare requested materials for classroom use
  • Promote a love of reading and support library skills instruction
  • Provide support outside of the media center for up to 20% of the role (approximately 7 hours per week)

5. Professional Growth

  • Participate in relevant professional development to enhance media and technology skills
  • Apply new learning to support instructional and program goals
  • Reflect on contributions to program success and collaborate with the Media Coordinator for continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or relevant technology/library media experience preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technology tools and platforms
  • Experience working in a school or educational environment preferred
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Work Environment:

  • School-based setting requiring movement throughout the media center and classrooms
  • Daily interaction with students, staff, and families
  • Regular use of computers, AV equipment, and educational technology tools

Additional Information:

  • Reports To: Media Coordinator and Principal
  • Term of Employment: 10 months (7 hours per day)
  • Performance Evaluation: Evaluated annually by school administration (principal and/or assistant principal) and/or the media coordinator, as determined by the principal
  • Pay Grade: 56
