Job description

Job Summary
Towson University (TU) has earned distinction as both a top-100 public university and one of the nation's great colleges to work for. Located north of Baltimore, TU currently enrolls over 19,000 students and is the second-largest university in the prestigious University System of Maryland. Towson University fosters a climate that is grounded in respect to cultivating the intellectual and personal growth of the entire university community.
The HR (Human Resources) Associate performs duties to help keep employee data, records, and processes running smoothly. This includes handling HR documentation, supporting onboarding, resolving data issues, and collaborating with teams across the university to ensure accuracy, compliance, and great customer service. Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 of service in good standing.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Process and maintain employee records and HR documentation using systems like PeopleSoft, Taleo, Perceptive Content, and HireRight.
  • Research and resolve HR data issues; perform audits to ensure accuracy.
  • Partner with HR, Payroll, Benefits, Finance, and other departments to verify and process HR transactions.
  • Respond to employee inquiries about HR data and processes.
  • Support contract processing for new and renewing contractual employees.
  • Generate HR reports to support operations and decision - making.
  • Assist with onboarding, including adjunct faculty new hire sessions.
  • Contribute to HR projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three years clerical experience, one year of which must have involved the application of human resources policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of general human resources practices and procedures; ability to understand and interpret human resources policies and procedures; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact; to execute multiple assignments under specific time constraints with general instructions.

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience, and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience processing various HR related transactions.

Salary and Benefits
Targeted salary range of $49,500-$51,500 annually and full University benefits that includes annual leave, up to 17 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission. Applicants with TU or USM service may receive salary credit. When applicable, a 2.5% increase may be added to the annual salary, pending successful completion of the initial six-month probationary period, for this position.
