AES Clean Energy is currently seeking an Associate Developer to assist in leading project development within AES Clean Energy's Central Wind Development region.
The successful candidate will drive project development for wind projects located in MISO, SPP and ERCOT service areas. Key responsibilities include oversight and coordination of site identification and prospecting, land acquisition, project permitting, site studies, interconnection, engineering, pre-construction and overall due diligence, development of budget and scheduling, due diligence review of potential project acquisitions and ensuring projects successfully reach construction commencement. The Associate Developer must collaborate closely with project SME teams to understand all development activities, build project consensus and execute project strategy. Additionally, the Associate Developer will manage external stakeholders and internal partners, and presents AES's position clearly in both internal and external meetings, showing full ownership of outcomes. While the Associate Developer may not directly lead each development activity, it is critical that the candidate strives toward a deep understanding of these activities and the interplay between each to guarantee successful project delivery.
This position will reside within AES Clean Energy's project development group and will work in close collaboration with multiple cross-functional teams.
The position may be hybrid based, but there is a strong preference for this team member to be located near AES' Louisville, CO or Houston, TX office.
The role requires the ability to collaborate with the project team, maintain clear and transparent communication, work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, and requires regular travel as needed. The successful candidate will work on a cross-functional team including growth strategy, land acquisition, permitting, real estate, external affairs, stakeholder relations, legal, finance, engineering, interconnection, construction, external consultants, landowners, local officials, customers, and other project stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to all aspects of project development from early stage to NTP.
  • Ownership of project development schedules and budgets.
  • Assist and Lead project meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Show the leadership needed to communicate and influence employees at all levels regarding project risks, opportunities, and recommended action.
  • Manage contract obligations in key project documents.
  • Manage Project Discretionary Permitting including permit strategy, tracking permit efforts, working with local AHJs, presenting at permit hearings.
  • Coordinate closely with the broader cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate for delivery of site and environmental studies, surveys and diligence reports.
  • Work with internal and external Engineering teams as they progress engineering and design.
  • Work with internal construction management team on contractor selection process.
  • Coordinate with execution team on securing ministerial permits.
  • Handoff projects once fully developed and permitted to the project execution team.
  • Assist project finance through diligence questions and providing required documents.
  • Coordinate additional resources or outside consultants/contractors as well as managing and meeting expenses throughout project development.
  • Provide support and analysis for Business Development pipeline reporting.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 2 - 4 years of project development experience in renewable energy development.
  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in renewable energy, urban planning, logistics, finance, business, engineering, project/construction management or equivalent.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy project development, utilities, interconnection, permitting, contracting.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy and energy storage technologies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required including public speaking, conflict resolution, and/or platform skills for executive management presentations.
  • Self-starter, very self-reliant and capable of operating with minimum supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 40% on average but more as required by projects.
  • Experience utilizing CRM systems and developing metrics.

Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
