What is an associate developer?

Associate Developers are entry-level software professionals who assist in designing, coding, testing, and maintaining software applications under the guidance of more experienced developers. They typically work as part of a development team, contributing to projects by writing code, fixing bugs, and participating in code reviews. Associate Developers are often recent graduates or individuals with limited professional programming experience, and this role serves as a stepping stone to more advanced positions in software development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate developer?

To thrive as an Associate Developer, you need a solid understanding of programming languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript, alongside a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, integrated development environments (IDEs), and basic knowledge of databases is typically expected. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly with team members help you stand out in this role. These competencies are crucial to efficiently contribute to software projects, collaborate effectively, and support the delivery of high-quality code.

What are some typical challenges faced by associate developers when transitioning from academic projects to real-world software development?

Associate Developers often find that moving from academic or personal projects to professional software development introduces new challenges, such as working within larger codebases, adhering to established coding standards, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. Managing version control, participating in code reviews, and understanding the importance of clear documentation are also key aspects. Additionally, learning to estimate tasks accurately and prioritize responsibilities based on team goals helps Associate Developers grow and succeed in a professional environment.

We are seeking a highly skilled Full Stack/Appian Developer. The developer will play a critical role in designing, developing, and deploying business process management (BPM) applications using the Appian platform while ensuring robust integration with Salesforce. This role requires a blend of low-code application development, database design, and performance optimization skills to deliver scalable enterprise solutions.

Must have some exposure to Appian and the ability to learn Appian development, Appian SAIL, Appian integrations, and Appian DevOps processes, if don’t already possess these skills.

Required Experience (5+ years):

  • Experience configuring reports and dashboards in Salesforce.
  • Experience with Salesforce data management tools (Data Loader, import wizards).
  • Experience integrating Salesforce with external systems via REST/SOAP APIs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Appian low code development concepts, including interfaces, process models, records, and data types.
  • Ability to navigate Appian Designer and work with standard Appian components under guidance.
  • Experience building or modifying applications, forms, or workflow automations.
  • Understanding of Appian best practices for application design, performance, and maintainability.

Preferred Experience:

  • Hands-on Appian development experience, including Appian SAIL, process models, and Appian plug-ins.
  • Experience with Appian integrations (e.g., web services, REST APIs, Appian-Oracle connectors).
  • Experience building or modifying simple Appian applications, forms, or workflow automations.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices (CI/CD, automated testing, etc.).

Required Certification:

  • Cloud platforms - Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform

Preferred Certifications:

  • Appian Certified Associate Developer or Appian Certified Senior Developer
  • Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate
  • Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional (OCP)

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deploy Appian BPM applications, including process models, rules, interfaces, integrations, and data structures.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, and analysts to translate requirements into functional Appian solutions.
  • Develop and maintain integrations between Appian and Salesforce, ensuring data consistency and high performance.
  • Ensure compliance with best practices for database normalization, indexing, performance tuning, and security.
  • Troubleshoot application and database issues, providing timely resolutions.
  • Document technical designs, workflows, and configurations for both Appian and Salesforce applications.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, retrospectives, and demos.
  • Mentor junior developers and support knowledge sharing within the team.
