Overview

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Graduate School of Business and Leadership (GSBL) at National Louis University seeks a dynamic, forward-thinking, student-centered faculty member, for its Master of Business Administration (MBA). This is a full-time (10-month) Professional Practice appointment at the Assistant Professor rank (or rank commensurate with qualifications and experience).

We seek a colleague who has had business experience, experience as faculty, and a fundamental understanding that the leaders of tomorrow must be critical thinkers and problem solvers, able to lead change and navigate complex environments. The incumbent will join a highly-engaged, change-forward and motivated Graduate School of Business and Leadership team. We are looking for an energetic, dedicated, empathic, and student-centered colleague who will thrive in our high-energy, collaborative learning environment built around NLU's ten-year strategic plan which is focused on becoming a strong, vibrant, multi-disciplinary institution steeped in the values of innovation, access, excellence and equity.

ABOUT THE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND LEADERSHIP

The Graduate School of Business and Leadership at NLU currently offers nine Master's Degree programs, the Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership and a Doctorate of Business Administration.

Essential Responsibilities

Teaching:

  • The primary accountability will be the delivery of master level courses in business and related topics. Teaching may be both online and in person through our weekend, low residency program.
  • An important part of our program design is to provide students with an educational path to success. To support that goal, we have advanced standing undergraduate courses that provide a path to the MBA. The successful incumbent will value this path and have an interest in teaching courses with undergraduate students enrolled.
  • Our MBA provides a strong path to our Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA). Highly qualified candidates will have the opportunity to support students as committee chair/member in the DBA dissertation process.    
  • Development of courses and learning experiences.
  • Course updates to the master online templates as necessary.
  • Participation in programmatic and student learning outcomes assessment.

Passion for Student Success:

  • Contributions to continuous improvement of student outcomes in engagement, retention, graduation, and career advancement.
  • Active involvement in the programs, tools and events that enable students to learn and experience more about their respective fields while pursuing their degree.
  • Student mentoring, including advising on academic progress and professional goals.
Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in business, leadership, or related field.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience both in teaching and in practice
  • The successful candidate will complement a faculty team with expertise in finance, economics, and technology, bringing depth in leadership, organizational effectiveness, organizational development or a related field to round out the program's instructional capacity.
  • Experience teaching or practicing Project Management, including familiarity with PM methodologies; PMP or equivalent certification is a plus.
  • Record of effective teaching in higher education.
  • Record of effective teaching in online and hybrid/blended formats.
  • Research experience as evidenced by publications in journals, books, book chapters, white papers, or presentations to corporate, academic, or professional communities will be considered a plus.
  • Professionalism and demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations.
  • Commitment to student success, student professional growth, and effective professional advising.
  • Experience in learning outcome assessment.
  • Experience using technology, including AI, in teaching, course development and the classroom.
  • Appropriate professional memberships.
