EXECUTIVE DIRECTORThe Ohnward Fine Arts Center, Maquoketa, IA

The Ohnward Fine Arts Center is located in Maquoketa, IA. It is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.

The Executive Director is a part-time salaried position that eventually converts to a full-time position. The Director will oversee all activities occurring in the facility. Tasks can range from coordinating the program's calendar and attracting donations to increasing the theater's visibility in the community and managing the budget. The Executive Director will supervise general maintenance, coordinate events and productions in the theater, and ensure the theater's profitability.

The ideal candidates will have:

  • Education: College B.A. degree or 5 years relevant experience in this field.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, computer, and research skills.
  • Proven experience with contracts and negotiations is a must. Knowledge of tech riders and stage plots necessary.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment as well as on your own.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple teams simultaneously
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Develop, review, and carry out the theater's business plan
  • Plan and book theater programs, ensuring a balance of varied types of productions, and take note of which productions are well-received.
  • Work with booking agents and negotiate contracts
  • Knowledge of tech riders and stage plots necessary
  • Work with the Board of Directors to manage the budget and ensure the financial and operational targets of the theater
  • Lead a team of staff and volunteers and represent Ohnward in the community.
  • Ensure the theater meets health and safety requirements and licensing laws.
  • Develop partnerships with funding bodies and other organizations.
  • Public speaking including TV, radio, and introducing Ohnward shows.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Write all required grants and complete grant reports.
  • Develop and oversee marketing strategies for all shows.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and climb ladders.

OPERATIONAL & FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

  • Supervise management and operations of front of house, box office, volunteers, house management.
  • Manage operations and inventory of lobby bar and concessions.
  • Act as liaison between the administrative and the tech director to ensure open communication and seamless coordination between the two.
  • Learn the Technical Director role and operate and sound board and light board, etc.
  • Determine and maintain day-to-day maintenance of the building.
  • Liaison with Fire Marshal regarding safety codes and required upgrades, create and implement evacuation plans, maintain all safety logs for both theater and shop.
  • Troubleshoot all facility problems such as plumbing, electrical, etc. Contact outside vendors / repair contractors as needed.

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Once employed full-time, you will be the Technical Director with the daily responsibility for the technical operations of a theater or performing arts center, including lighting, sound, set design, and construction, and the coordination of necessary maintenance.

The Executive Director position requires some evening and weekend work.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion and passing of a comprehensive background check.

The Ohnward Fine Arts Center has a 30,000-square-foot, 841-seat performing arts facility. The Ohnward Fine Arts Center is a non-profit facility made possible through private donations, grants, and countless volunteer hours.

THE DREW ART GALLERY - The Drew Art Gallery provides 3,600 square feet of exhibition space for original artwork and doubles as a spacious venue for banquets, receptions, and more.

THE KOPEL THEATRE - The Kopel Theatre is a state-of-the-art facility that offers a 2,450-square-foot stage. The theatre also includes a 12,000-watt, 40-channel sound system and computer-controlled lighting.

The OFAC is located 35 miles from Dubuque and 40 miles from the Quad Cities.
