Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Business Intelligence Developer II is part of Eskenazi Health's Analytics Department and helps champion data driven decision making. The developer is knowledgeable in the content and structure of the data warehouse and the software used to access it. The Business Intelligence Developer II is responsible for the development of requested reports, overall evaluation of data quality, assisting Tier I Developers, and working with the Data Analysts to ensure user needs are being met. A successful developer will enjoy writing SQL code, be able to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to meet requests, and be willing to take innovative approaches to achieving the goals of the organization. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County.  Models Eskenazi values of P.R.I.D.E. (Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and Excellence)
  • Utilizes Epic Cogito Tools, SlicerDicer, and other business intelligence tools to meet customer needs.
  • Adheres to departmental policies and procedures regarding peer reviews, validation, and movement of content from lower to production environments.
  • Ensures the reporting security of users, and access to reports is correct.
  • Works with a multidisciplinary team to accomplish deliverables.
  • Works with Application Teams to ensure system configuration allows reporting to meet business needs.
  • Actively participates in departmental maintenance and cleanup of the reporting library and data quality.
  • Reviews assigned Nova Notes and completes the required work by the established upgrade deadlines. 
  • Independently debugs problem queries or problem-solves complex reporting problems.
  • Works with team lead and ETL developer when unable to write a query that runs efficiently.
  • Develops data models for business intelligence tools outside of Epic.
  • Provides one-on-one training to end users.
  • Validates data in reports by utilizing Epic and other software to verify what is returned in the results matches what is displayed to end users.
  • Understands the ETL processes specific for the Analytics team.
  • Executes SSIS jobs when needed and understands the process of SSIS job development.
  • Writes medium complexity SQL queries and seeks out ways to increase efficiency and skill in SQL code.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Informatics, Business, Mathematics or a healthcare major from an accredited college or university
  • Three years of healthcare or analytical experience may be substituted in lieu of educational requirement
  • Proficiency in SQL programming is required. 
  • Able to obtain the following Epic certifications (or comparable certifications if Epic stops offering these) within six months of hire.
  • Cogito Fundamentals, Cogito Administration, Caboodle Data Model, Clarity Data Model, Clinical Data Model, or Data Courier (Badge)
  • Valid Indiana driver's license
