What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Associate Application Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Application Developer, you need a strong grasp of programming languages (such as Java, Python, or C#), problem-solving skills, and a relevant degree or certification in computer science or software engineering. Familiarity with development frameworks, version control systems (like Git), and integrated development environments (IDEs) is typically required. Effective communication, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn make candidates stand out in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality code, collaborating in teams, and adapting to evolving technology requirements.

What engineering jobs pay 500,000?

For an Associate Application Developer, earning $500,000 annually is uncommon and typically requires senior-level positions, extensive experience, specialized skills, or leadership roles in high-paying industries like finance or technology. Most software engineering roles with such compensation involve senior or executive positions, often including bonuses, stock options, or profit sharing. Entry-level or mid-tier developers generally earn significantly less than this amount.

What are some common challenges faced by Associate Application Developers during their first year on the job?

Associate Application Developers often encounter challenges such as learning the company's codebase, adapting to new development tools, and understanding established workflows. Balancing multiple tasks or projects while meeting deadlines is another common challenge, but support from team leads and access to mentorship programs are typically available to help new developers grow and succeed.

What are Associate Application Developers?

Associate Application Developers are entry-level software professionals who assist with designing, coding, testing, and maintaining applications under the supervision of more experienced developers. Their responsibilities typically include writing code, debugging software, participating in code reviews, and collaborating with team members to deliver functional software solutions. This role is ideal for recent graduates or those new to the field, offering opportunities to learn best practices and gain hands-on experience in application development.

What jobs pay 70k a year with an associate's degree?

Job description

Location Designation: Hybrid - 3 days per quarter

Role Summary

Own application-level readiness, validation, dependency remediation, testing automation coordination, and production sign-off required to support vulnerability remediation, AWS remediation, EOL modernization, and accelerated patching.

This role ensures application risks are identified early, remediation dependencies are resolved, and application teams move from manual validation to automated, exception-based review where appropriate.

What You'll Do:

Application Ownership, Readiness & Prioritization

Confirm application ownership, business criticality, production impact, testing windows, release constraints, and sign-off model.

Coordinate with CIO teams, DevOps, SREs, application owners, and business stakeholders to sequence remediation safely.

Identify application-level blockers that could delay AWS remediation, EOL modernization, vulnerability remediation, or production patching.

Escalate readiness gaps when testing, code changes, compatibility review, reboot approvals, or production sign-off threaten remediation timelines.

AWS, EOL & Vulnerability Remediation Support

Support AWS remediation by validating application impact, workload criticality, reboot windows, SRE coordination, dependencies, and post-patch sign-off.

Support EOL OS remediation through code/configuration changes, dependency remediation, application installation logic, build readiness, UAT, containerization decisions, and legacy decommission sign-off.

Support vulnerability remediation through library upgrades, middleware compatibility validation, code fixes, configuration changes, certificate/runtime updates, and confirmation that remediation does not break business functionality.

Partner with platform teams on EKS readiness, EC2 hardened AMI migration, CI/CD readiness, and deployment validation.

Regression Automation & Evidence

Define smoke tests, service checks, API checks, login checks, critical business transaction validation, and pass/fail criteria.

Partner with DevOps and CIO teams to automate regression testing through CI/CD, New Relic monitors, synthetics, service dashboards, or other approved tooling.

Shift application validation from full manual testing to automated testing with exception-based review.

Attach automated test results, logs, monitoring evidence, defects, and sign-off records to change or vulnerability closure records.

Exception & Risk Support

Provide business impact statements, compensating controls, risk decisions, remediation commitments, and time-bound exception inputs when application remediation cannot be completed on schedule.

Coordinate production readiness reviews and post-deployment issue triage for application-impacting patch or modernization events.

Authority and Scope

Require application owners to confirm criticality, validation windows, dependencies, and production sign-off expectations.

Escalate application readiness, testing, code/configuration, or sign-off delays that block remediation.

Define minimum validation evidence required from application teams for patch and vulnerability closure.

Success Measures & Key Outcomes (First 6-12 Months)

Application validation time is reduced through smoke-test automation and exception-based review.

Critical apps have documented owners, test packs, pass/fail criteria, and validation windows.

Code, dependency, configuration, certificate, runtime, and middleware remediation blockers are addressed within target timelines.

AWS remediation, EOL modernization, and vulnerability remediation receive timely application sign-off.

Application evidence supports audit-ready closure.

What You'll Bring:

7+ years in application support, SRE, DevOps, application engineering, production support, or application remediation leadership.

Strong understanding of application dependencies, APIs, databases, middleware, certificates, runtimes, libraries, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment workflows.

Experience with New Relic, synthetic monitoring, service dashboards, API testing, smoke testing, regression automation, or observability tooling.

Ability to coordinate across CIO application teams, DevOps, infrastructure, security, business stakeholders, and vendors.

Nice to Have

Experience with EOL modernization, cloud migration, containerization, EKS, Terraform, or CI/CD modernization.

Experience with application security remediation, SCA, SAST/DAST findings, or library vulnerability remediation.

SRE, DevOps, cloud, application security, or ITIL certifications.

Working Model

Hybrid role requiring close collaboration with CIO application teams, DevOps, SREs, IT Operations, Cybersecurity, and business owners. Occasional off-hours support may be required for production patching, emergency remediation, zero-day events, or critical application validation windows.
