GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Programming Coordinator, in conjunction with the Program Manager, is responsible for program planning, scheduling and announcement of schedules, physical event preparation, and solicitation of resident feedback of recreational activities for residents.ย  The programs are to be coordinated in cooperation with residents, staff, and community resources.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of LifeSpire of Virginia.
  • Develops a schedule of resident activities in conjunction with the Manager/Director that meets the individual and community needs of the residents. Works directly with the Manager/Director to ensure these activities are carried out.ย 
  • Communicates schedules by posting monthly and daily calendars and notices in the appropriate places by the first of the month.ย  Communicates any changes or updates as needed.ย 
  • Performs various administrative tasks including but not limited to, submitting transportation requests, catering and dining requests, room reservations, housekeeping requests, etc.
  • Maintains adequate activity equipment and supplies to meet the needs and interests of residents.ย 
  • Maintains accurate registration and attendance records for events and outings.
  • Encourages and promotes resident participation in activities and events.
  • Accompanies residents on trips outside of the community as scheduled.
  • Drives company vehicles when needed for resident trips and programming needs.
  • Strives to attain excellence in resident satisfaction through ongoing involvement and measurement of resident feedback, implementation of resident suggestions, interactive problem solving with residents.ย 
  • Processes invoices and company purchasing card expenses in a timely manner.
  • Participates in community and professionally sponsored educational opportunities as required.ย ย 
  • Maintains confidentiality of all resident related information.
  • Assures the provision of high-quality services needed and/or desired by residents.
  • Follows all personnel policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and subsequent publications and notices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Activity Coordinator Must be over 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Obtain a Certified Dementia Practitioner certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Previous computer experience and skills required.
  • Previous experience in gerontological care preferred.
  • Relevant skills include planning and organization, multi-tasking, leadership, interpersonal relationships, superior written and oral communication, and general compassion for others.
  • Valid Driverโ€™s license with a clean driving record to meet community driving requirements.
  • Requires evening, weekend, and holiday work as scheduled and needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree preferred with background in gerontology, recreation or therapeutic background.
  • Prior experience in a senior living community is a plus.

  • The employee must occasionally push/pull or lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift, carry, and move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other standard office equipment.
  • The employee may be subject to sights, sounds, and bodily odors inherent in healthcare, particularly the care of the elderly.
