Job description

Summary Statement

The Delaware Department of Justice (DOJ) is seeking an exceptional and highly motivated individual for the Family Division to serve in the Child Support Unit in New Castle County as a Deputy Attorney General. The Deputy Attorney General will represent the Division of Child Support Services in establishing paternity, enforcing child support orders, collecting arrears, and providing general guidance. The position features a high-volume caseload with frequent litigation and appellate opportunities, statewide travel for meetings, trainings, and hearings, and is a casual seasonal, hourly position up to 37.5 hours per week.

Essential Functions

The Deputy Attorney General will:

  • Represent the Division of Child Support Services in Family Court and appellate courts;
  • Prepare legal filings, briefs, and conduct detailed legal research;
  • Negotiate settlements and manage complex family law matters;
  • Collaborate with agency staff to achieve the Division's mission.
Job Requirements
  • Membership in the Delaware Bar is required; applicants not admitted may qualify for limited admission under Supreme Court Rule 55.
  • Prior experience in family law and general counsel is preferred.
  • Proficiency in evaluating cases, meeting deadlines, and conducting legal research.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant state laws, rules of evidence, and court rules.
  • Background check is required.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Assistance with flexible, casual seasonal employment; hourly pay for hours worked.
Compensation
  • Pay Grade A12: $38.81–$42.69 per hour
  • Pay Grade A14: $45.03–$47.23 per hour
  • Pay Grade A16: $49.74–$51.97 per hour
  • Pay Grade A18: $54.68–$57.38 per hour
  • Pay Grade A20: $60.63–$63.03 per hour
