Job description

Position: General Counsel / Attorney

A privately held, billion-dollar+ operating and real estate company is seeking a high-caliber attorney to serve as the second-in-command within its legal department. This is a newly created position due to company growth, offering the opportunity to work directly with the General Counsel and executive leadership.

About the Company

Role Overview

  • Serve as the #2 attorney in a three-person legal department
  • Partner closely with the General Counsel and senior leadership, including the President and Board of Directors
  • Handle a wide variety of legal matters with a focus on real estate and finance
  • Help guide the legal strategy and ensure compliance across all aspects of the business
  • Work onsite five days per week with flexibility for personal and family needs

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support across real estate transactions, corporate finance, and general business operations
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements
  • Support and manage outside counsel relationships as needed
  • Advise senior executives on a wide range of legal issues
  • Contribute to legal risk management and corporate governance

Qualifications

  • JD from an accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar
  • Strong academic background and polished communication skills
  • Law firm experience required; in-house experience a plus
  • Significant experience with real estate and finance transactions
  • Additional transactional or litigation experience preferred
  • Maturity, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach essential
  • Comfortable working closely with a variety of personalities and navigating complex interpersonal dynamics
  • Willingness to be a long-term contributor and work as part of a close-knit, hard-working team
