The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures within the Faculty of Arts of McGill University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Russian Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants should demonstrate a strong record of, or clear potential for, significant research and publication, as well as excellence in university-level teaching. We seek a dynamic teacher and scholar who will contribute actively to the development of the Russian Studies program and demonstrate potential for collaborative research across disciplines and media.
Russian Studies at McGill is housed within the multidisciplinary Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, which offers courses and programs in German, Italian, Russian, and Hispanic languages, literatures, cultures, thought, cinema, and digital humanities. The Department combines sustained engagement with particular linguistic and cultural traditions with transnational, comparative, and interdisciplinary approaches. Candidates should indicate how their research and teaching would contribute to this broader intellectual and multicultural environment.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Russian literature and culture. We particularly welcome candidates whose research and teaching also engage with areas such as cross-cultural and comparative studies, regional studies, media studies, environmental humanities, decolonial and postcolonial studies, performance studies, or intellectual history.
Applicants must hold a PhD by the date of appointment and possess proficiency in Russian and English appropriate for effective university-level teaching, research, and service.
