Job description

Seeking a Systems Engineer in San Antonio with hardware and lab manager experience to implement, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse infrastructure systems (e.g. multi-purpose hosting, virtualized environments, big data analytic systems, cloud environments, real-time systems, business management information systems, logging and monitoring systems, hardware, Active Directory, Linux/Unix-Windows- or OSx-based, storage area networks (SAN), LAN and WAN networking, and other infrastructure-related components) based upon documented requirements.
Provides technical leadership for the integration of requirements, design, and technology. Incorporates new plans, designs and systems into ongoing operations with a focus on capacity and resiliency planning. Develops technical documentation. Ultimate responsibility for the technical integrity of work performed and deliverables associated with the System Engineering area of responsibility. Communicates with other program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives.
Required Skills:
  • Willing to travel for a two-week training course. Additional travel for site visits may occur.
  • Dataflow experience within the last 5 years
  • Design and deliver infrastructure solutions
  • Perform system integration, system administration, or network engineering tasks.
  • Contribute to the development of system engineering documentation such as System Engineering Plans, Initial Capability Documents, requirement specifications, and Interface Control Documents.
  • Review and/or approve system engineering documentation to ensure that processes and specifications meet system needs and are accurate, comprehensive, and complete.
  • Analyze hardware specifications and system/subsystem requirements to conceive and document a practical design for hardware components to include servers, network devices, transmission media, storage devices, user interface devices, and special processors.
  • Perform function requirements and specifications for hardware acquisitions when needed.
  • Ensure that problems with operational hardware have been properly identified and solutions will satisfy the user's requirements.
  • Conduct site surveys; assess and document current site network configuration and site-unique requirements.
  • Develop hardware installation schedules based upon set-up, integration and test timelines.
  • Train site personnel in proper use of hardware.
  • Contribute to the development of sections of IT and telecommunication systems.
  • Assist with building simulations of proposed systems and provide hardware throughput analyses to system engineers.
  • Understand load balancing within the system, how to measure and recommend optimization (Frontend and Backend).
  • Prepare Mean-Time-Between-Failure and Mean-Time-To-Repair analyses.
  • Support planning, testing and implementation of all required certification and accreditation processes.
  • Prepare for and implement future STE/STN, infrastructure management activities.
  • Ability to work complex projects as a senior contributor and as part of an integrated product team.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working directly with customers.

(U) Experience in one or more of the following networking topics is preferred:
  • Network troubleshooting of complex issues, such as IPSec, VXLAN, FWs, Load Balancing and DNS
  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and thin client architectures
  • Security administration to include enterprise antivirus, malware detection, intrusion detection and audit solutions
  • Knowledge of Amazon Web Services platforms and solutions

(U) Performs tasks in IT and telecommunication projects in at least three (3) of the following areas:
  • Windows or Linux server system administration (e.g., 2K3, 2K8, 7, 10, various Linux flavors)
  • Integrating GOTS/COTS/open-source solutions
  • Virtualization technology experience (e.g., VMWare, Zen, Citrix, KVM)
  • Networking and TCP/IP protocols (e.g., CISCO, Juniper)
  • Storage technologies (e.g., SAN, NAS, Fiber Channel, iSCSI, NFS)
  • Remote access (e.g., Juniper SSL VPN), or other IT infrastructure technologies.
