Messing Roofing & Construction is seeking an ambitious Assistant Site Superintendent to help lead the construction of a large multifamily development in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated construction professional to work alongside an experienced Site Superintendent and Project Manager while gaining hands-on leadership experience managing complete exterior building envelope systems. Project Scope

The Assistant Site Superintendent will assist in coordinating and overseeing the installation of:

  • Asphalt shingle roofing systems
  • Tapered low-slope roofing systems
  • Weather-resistant barriers (WRB)
  • Fiber cement siding
  • CertainTeed stone veneer systems
  • Exterior doors
  • Windows
  • Building envelope detailing, flashing, and quality control

Position Summary

The Assistant Site Superintendent supports the Site Superintendent in managing daily field operations, coordinating subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, ensuring quality workmanship, and promoting a safe, productive jobsite. This role serves as a key link between the office, field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and ownership while developing the skills necessary to become a future Superintendent.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Site Superintendent with daily management of field operations.
  • Coordinate subcontractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to schedule.
  • Assist in planning and sequencing construction activities to maximize productivity.
  • Monitor daily production goals and project milestones.
  • Perform daily jobsite walks to verify quality, workmanship, and compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Verify that all installations meet manufacturer requirements, building codes, and project specifications.
  • Identify construction deficiencies and coordinate corrective action.
  • Help maintain project schedules by proactively resolving field issues.
  • Coordinate material deliveries and ensure materials are available when needed.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, field documentation, photographs, and progress updates.
  • Assist with inspections, deficiency lists, punch lists, and project closeout activities.
  • Enforce company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Promote a clean, organized, and professional jobsite.
  • Communicate effectively with the Project Manager, Site Superintendent, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and owners.
  • Support the training and development of field personnel while fostering a positive team environment.

Qualifications

  • 310 years of construction field experience.
  • Experience in multifamily, commercial, or large residential construction preferred.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and multiple trades is an asset.
  • Knowledge of exterior cladding, roofing, weather barriers, windows, and building envelope systems is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Comfortable using construction management software, Microsoft Office, tablets, and mobile technology.
  • OSHA 30 Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and walk active construction sites daily.
