Job description

Overview
NaphCare is hiring a Medical Scheduler to join our team of medical professionals at our Corporate headquarters in Birmingham, ALwhere we manage healthcare services for the residents in federal correctional institutions. This position will be remote, however candidates must be available to report to the corporate office when requested. All training will be done in person at our corporate office. Candidates must live within a 1-hour commute of Birmingham.
As a Medical Scheduler, you will work with healthcare professionals at the hospitals and federal prisons to coordinate and schedule all healthcare appointments for the inmates on and off site.
Responsibilities
The Medical Scheduler will schedule appointments and maintain the medical records for all BOP medical appointments on and off-site. Duties and responsibilities may include and are not limited to:
  • Scheduling various medical appointments, including on-site clinic visits and off-site specialist appointments, as recommended by medical staff
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential medical records, including entering consultation requests into the system and managing patient information
  • Assist with reviewing medical records and authorization scenarios
  • Assist with maintaining a calendar and utilize technology to maximize efficiencies of the scheduling process
  • Effectively communicating with healthcare staff, patients, and other relevant parties regarding appointments, scheduling changes, and other medical information
  • Adhering to all relevant security protocols, confidentiality standards, and HIPAA regulations

Qualifications
Requirements / Qualifications:
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Prior training in a medical office setting scheduling medical appointments and working with medical records, strongly preferred
  • A working knowledge of medical terminology and various types of medical specialties
  • Experience utilizing computer systems for scheduling, data entry, and report generation, often handling large volumes of data
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
  • Must possess strong written communication and verbal skills
  • Demonstrate skills in accuracy and multi-tasking with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to customer service throughout the scheduling and claims process
  • Demonstrate a high comfort level in working with large volumes of data
  • Maintain confidentiality when managing medical records, patient data and NaphCare processes
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements

Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Demands
  • Ability to work and sit in front of a computer approximately 8 hours per day
  • Talking, listening and frequent use of hands to communicate effectively with team members by typing, phone handling and data entry
  • Visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing data/information and viewing a computer terminal
  • Ability to work under pressure
