Job description

Position Summary: The Development Associate supports National Abortion Federation’s fundraising efforts by strengthening development operations and contributing to donor communications. This role is primarily responsible for ensuring strong internal coordination, accurate data management, and timely execution of donor-related activities. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and a strong communicator who can manage multiple priorities while working collaboratively across teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
State Grant Management amp; Compliance
  • Supports a portfolio of state grants, including tracking deadlines, deliverables, and leading reimbursement processes.
  • Coordinates with program, finance, and leadership teams to gather data for reports, renewals, and compliance.
  • Ensures adherence to state funding guidelines, documentation standards, and reporting timelines.
  • Maintains accurate records, including contracts, amendments, and reporting history.
  • Monitors grant expenditures in partnership with finance to ensure alignment with approved budgets
Donor Communications Support
  • Supports donor communications across the team.
  • Assist with list segmentation and A/B testing, including donor surveys and tracking donor preferences in the database.
  • Supports development and distribution of newsletters, updates, and appeals.
  • Prepares briefing materials for donor meetings and events.
  • Ensures consistency in messaging and tone across communications.
Project amp; Event Coordination
  • Tracks timelines and deliverables for development projects, campaigns, and grant submissions.
  • Supports planning and execution of donor events, including invitations, RSVPs, and logistics.
  • Coordinates with internal teams to gather content and materials for communications and reporting
Prospect Research amp; Data Support
  • Conducts prospect research to identify new funding opportunities, including state funding sources
  • Tracks engagement metrics and support reporting on fundraising performance.
  • Assists with list management and segmentation for targeted outreach.
Development Operations amp; Administration
  • Provides backup support for gift entry in coordination with the Development Database Lead.
  • Helps generate donor reports and mailing lists.
  • Assumes responsibility within the role to foster a culture of equity, inclusion, belonging, and accountability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required:
  • Minimum of an associate’s degree or equivalent years of experience
  • At least Two (2) – Four (4) years of experience in nonprofit development, grants management, administration, or a related field; Experience managing or supporting government/state grants, donor communications or fundraising campaigns strongly preferred.
  • Managed or assisted with state funding processes and compliance requirements or skills relevant to project management.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with high attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace.
  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge); Familiarity with email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp), preferred.
  • Comfort with data tracking, reporting, and basic analysis, preferred.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced work environment and working flexible hours to support organizational needs.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and strong commitment to abortion access, NAF’s mission, and organizational values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism.
ADA Specifications:
  • Normal demands associated with an office and primarily remote based office environment.
  • Ability to work on computer for prolonged periods, communicate with individuals by telephone, e-mail, face to face and via video conferencing technologies.
  • Ability to travel domestically when needed to support operational needs.
