Job description

Full/Part-time position

Minimum Qualifications

- CPA designation required or enrolled Agent designation

- 5 + consistent years of tax and accounting experience

- 2 + years of more advanced tax experience including planning and preparing projections

- 2 + years of supervisory experience, mentoring and counseling associates

- Extensive experience researching various tax matters

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting

- Proven financial, analytical, technical and interpersonal skills

- Excellent client service and demonstrated business development skills

- Demonstrated ability to oversee and manage engagements, prioritize engagements and supervise/motivate staff

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Extensive experience with QuickBooks and other accounting software, proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

- Advanced knowledge in business management and public accounting

- Advanced computer/software skills

- Passion for providing quality service and working in a team environment to achieve client goals regardless of task

Preferred Qualifications

- 7 + years of tax experience (personal & business) and attestation/accounting experience

- 7 + years of experience with QuickBooks desktop, QuickBooks Online (industry specific software, a plus)

- Experience with Thomson Reuters Tax & Accounting software

- Experience managing multiple clients on a consistent basis

Responsibilities

- Build relationships with clients

- Find solutions. You are the client’s advisor and as such you own the matter you are working on. Sometimes you will have the answer. Sometimes you will have to research it. Other times you will need to seek guidance from other people in the firm. Your role is to make sure the client has the answer they need

- Training and mentoring staff

- Review and/or prepare tax returns including but not limited to forms 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120S, 1120, 990, and state tax returns (primarily Michigan)

- Review and/or prepare annual, quarterly & monthly accounting/financial statements

- Prepare and/or review monthly/annual sales/use and payroll tax filings

- Conduct research, compile data and assist in resolving more complex tax issues using resources provided by the firm

- Contribute to business expansion efforts, including proposal development

- Meet with clients during and outside of tax season to gather or request data

- Maintain client communication to request data and review of associate’s client emails

- Update and maintain fixed asset databases

- Post/Review journal entries & monthly recurring entries

- Review and/or prepare bank reconciliations

- Gathering/organizing and accurately enter client data into tax returns for review

- Appropriately communicates difficult situations encountered on engagements to partner/owner, team or reviewer

- Performs self-review of all work prior to submission to team or reviewer

- Ability to keep client and employee information confidential is required

- Always be transparent to everyone in the firm and clients, which is also a very important part of our culture
