Position Description
The Project Engineer supports the delivery of heavy civil construction projects, including roadway, underground utilities, concrete paving, earthwork, and infrastructure work. This role works closely with the Project Manager and Project Superintendent to support project planning, execution, documentation, cost tracking, and coordination from preconstruction through closeout.
The Project Engineer is responsible for managing project documentation, tracking quantities and costs, coordinating subcontractors and suppliers, supporting scheduling and pay applications, and assisting with RFIs and change management. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate project controls, supporting field operations, and ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements. The Project Engineer role is also a developmental position, preparing individuals for advancement into Assistant Project Manager responsibilities.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, related field, and/or similar experience and consistent career path.
  • Typical Experience Level: 2 - 4 years of experience in construction as a Field Engineer, Coordinator, or Junior Estimator.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Experience with Viewpoint, HCSS Plans/HeavyJob, Bluebeam, and scheduling tools (Primavera p6).
  • Strong understanding of civil construction means and methods.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, written and verbal communication, and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with TXDOT specs, municipal contracts, and public/private infrastructure workflows.
