Position Summary
The University of New Mexico's (UNM) Facilities, Design & Construction (FDC) department seeks a Senior Project/Construction Manager to join our vibrant, committed team of professionals who support the built environment at UNM's campuses across the state. UNM FDC provides seamless delivery of professional support services to internal clients using best practices in capital project planning, development, and construction.
The Sr. Project/Construction Manager will:
  • Manage all aspects of assigned university capital improvement projects from initial scoping and programming through completion and occupancy; facilitate, coordinate, and lead the execution of multiple, major and minor capital projects to ensure that project goals are met on-time and within budget.
  • Develop and maintain project job files; directly responsible for scope, budget, and schedule development of assigned projects, and tracking of project schedule, budget, and project risks. Review, negotiate, and process change requests and change orders.
  • Oversee procurement of project design consultants, contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Manage project design, bids, construction, and move-in for internal clients to ensure design/function is achieved and consistent with overall institutional guidelines and standards.
  • Perform quality control inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications, institutional standards, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate and manage activities of consultants, contractors, vendor personnel, and suppliers: monitor contracts for compliance and cost control.
  • Directly manage FDC Project/Construction Managers, and/or Associate Project/Construction Managers to provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship on their projects and tasks.
  • Implement and help develop departmental processes, procedures, and policies to support optimum staff performance.

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; at least 9 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as architecture, engineering, construction management, project management, or management;
  • Strong supervisory experience and skills;
  • Exceptional critical/generative thinking skills, allowing for complex operating, administrative, and procedural decisions along with the ability to independently problem-solve in a demanding work environment; independently;
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills operating at a high level of integrity;
  • Experience with multiple project delivery systems;
  • Knowledge of and experience working with New Mexico Procurement Code;
  • Knowledge of and experience working with Federal, State, and local building codes, ordinances, and regulations and the various Authorities Having Jurisdiction (CID, NM SFM);
  • High level expertise in cost and schedule management;
  • Experience working with senior executive administration, executive clients, and internal and external stakeholders;
  • Familiarity with various software, such as Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, and Acrobat.
