Job description


Under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, provides physical therapy treatment as established by the Physical Therapist to meet specific measurable goals. Reports to Clinical Coordinator.
Responsibilities
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Assists the Physical Therapist during patient testing, evaluations and procedures.
  • Carries out a treatment program for assigned patients, as determined by the evaluation performed by the Physical Therapist.
  • Designs and fits adaptive devices such as orthotics, mobility aids and tools based on patient disability and rehabilitation needs.
  • Teaches patients/family the skills and techniques required for participation in Physical Therapy, adapting the instruction and techniques to meet the comprehension level of the patients/family.
  • Reports any changes in a patient's condition to the supervising Physical Therapist and assists in updating treatment plans.
  • Maintains adequate records within the medical record regarding patient responses to treatment techniques.
  • Supervises Rehabilitation Technicians and Aides appropriately. Maintains communication with physicians, via verbal and written reports, regarding patient treatment.
  • Supervises Rehabilitation Technicians and Aides appropriately.
  • Conducts or participates in Inservice training as needed for other hospital personnel.
  • Participates in educational programs and Inservice meetings.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications
Education: Associate's degree and graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program required.
Experience: Prior training or experience in related environment is preferred.
Special Skills: Employee must demonstrate ability to recognize patients' individual needs based on medical conditions, age (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures.
License/Cert: Must be certified as a PTA. Mississippi state licensure as required.
