Description:

Summit Body has served the commercial truck and transportation industry in the Pacific Northwest for over 35 years building and upfitting dry vans, flatbeds and refrigerated vans. In 2021, Summit acquired a Seattle-area service center, which repairs and refinishes all makes and models of medium, heavy duty, specialty, and fleet vehicles.


The Production Coordinator is responsible for leading a production team to meet the daily production schedule by training and adhering to established Standard Work Instructions (SWI). Working closely with the Production Manager, the Production Coordinator is responsible for training employees in documented standard work methods and quality expectations so their team can complete their work assignment safely at the expected work pace. The Production Coordinator is also responsible for leading the continuous improvement efforts within their production area of oversight. They are responsible for communicating modifications to the established Standard Work Instructions, through process improvements or tooling, with the sole purpose of reducing labor content. This is not a daily working supervisor position, except while training employees in their new job routines or filling in for employees who are absent. The Production Coordinator will assist a new team member in the completion of work tasks in order to maintain the line pace as a part of the training process. This is a critical role to maintain the pace and quality of the manufacturing line. The ideal candidate collaborates well, has an eye for detail, and follows written instructions well.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Perform all duties of the Production Specialist and Welding/Fabrication Specialist job descriptions at an expert level.

· Provide, train and clearly communicate Standard Work Instructions (SWI) for the production areas of responsibility and ensure strict team adherence to these practices.

· Ensure a high level of teamwork and maintain workflow at a pace that meets or exceeds takt/process time as defined by the SWI or the upfit data.

· Maintain a team-wide continuous improvement approach to the SWI and suggest weekly ways to improve efficiency or quality through process or tooling improvements.

· Always maintain a safe work environment and report any unsafe conditions to management immediately.

· Participate on the Safety Committee as needed as a representative of the production leadership team.

· Motivate, coach, and train team members to safely complete their work assignments according to the SWI while meeting the established line pace (or forecasted process time) and product quality expectations.

· Interview potential new team members for hire, perform employee performance reviews, and coach and counsel team members through the workplace corrective action/disciplinary process.

· Using Value Stream Map (VSM) observation methods, update, maintain and improve SWI and the VSM.

· Be the SWI Champion for your area of production and ensure that the most recent version of the SWI is used in training, provided to each employee, and a laminated copy is on display in the work area.

· With minimal direction, troubleshoot and solve production problems affecting the employees’ ability to meet the production schedule at pace and the product quality expectations.

· Lead Continuous Improvement efforts in their production area of responsibilities to meet company goals.

· Monitor and analyze production quality, productivity, and production data for trends and improvements.

· Assist Production Manager in building production schedule and meeting customer’s demand for product and lead-times.

· Maintain a clean, organized production and material storage area at all times.

· Assist the Production Manager with additional tasks as requested.


Work Environment

The factory noise level may require ear protection. The work area has forklift traffic and will occasionally require exposure to wet conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. Intermittently throughout the day you will be required to go outside in various weather conditions. On occasion there may be a need to lift, carry, push, and pull 75 lbs. Stooping, bending, twisting, climbing ladders and standing for periods of time may occasionally be required.

Work Hours

The Production Coordinator’s routine work hours are Monday through Thursday from 5:45 am to 4:30 pm. The workweek may expand up to 50 hours per week and/or Saturday overtime to meet customer demand.

Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience, health/dental/life insurance, paid vacation, 401K, and ESOP participation.

Requirements:


· High-school diploma, or equivalent required.

· Basic entry level computer skills in MS Outlook, Word and Excel.

· Ability to motivate and coach employees to grow and stretch themselves without showing favoritism towards employees.

· Effective oral and written communication skills for training employees and updating standard work instructions. Bi-lingual skills are a plus.

· Ability to safely operate all the various hand and pneumatic tools, power tools, cranes, measuring devices, forklift, fabrication equipment and MIG welders.

· Must pass pre-employment background check and drug test and annual random retesting.

· Must have your own transportation and valid driver’s license.

· Must own as a minimum all the tools on the “Summit Tools Required” list and a toolbox to store them in.
