Job Description:
Hiring Range: $29.794 - $42.563. Pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved.
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS), Rehabilitative Services, is seeking an experienced, visionary educator to serve as an integral member of the School Administration Team. Located primarily at the Reception and Treatment Center (RTC) in Lincoln with statewide facility oversight, this pivotal leadership role helps drive instructional excellence and program compliance across the agency's educational landscape.
As a core administrator, the successful candidate will directly impact instructional quality through rigorous teacher observation, mentorship, and formal evaluations aligned with state standards. Additionally, this position is integral to the strategic management, fiscal accountability, and compliance of vital grant-funded initiatives-with a primary focus on Title II of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)-ensuring that incarcerated individuals receive high-quality, compliant pathways to literacy, high school equivalency, and post-release career success.
DUTIES:
  • Lead and manage educational programming in designated NDCS facilities.
  • Ensure educational programs adhere to NDE regulations and NDCS policies.
  • Formulate and justify budgetary requests for the education program, including securing and maintaining grant funding.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate operational priorities, ensuring objectives are met and align with the broader goals of NDCS.
  • Analyze academic data, monitor teacher performance and identify student needs to enhance the overall educational experience.

Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: A master's degree in education administration and with teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in educational leadership and program administration.
  • Strong understanding of educational regulations and policies, preferably within a correctional or alternative education setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and hold staff accountable to performance standards.
  • Experience with budget formulation, justification, and grant acquisition.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and coordination skills.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Other: Must hold a Nebraska Administrative and Supervisory certificate with a principals 7-12 endorsement. Transcripts may be submitted upon application. Must have a valid driver's license. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.
