ABOUT MIRIAM'S KITCHEN
Miriam's Kitchen works to end chronic homelessness in Washington, DC. We advocate for permanent supportive housing as a long-term solution, while meeting short-term needs by providing healthy meals and high-quality social services to individuals who are chronically homeless.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Bridge Housing program is a new non-congregate bridge housing program that opened in September of 2025. Bridge Housing's primary goal is to help residents exit to permanent housing within 3-6 months. Bridge Housing will serve up to 190 residents at full capacity. Bridge Housing is open 24/7 and residents primarily stay in semi-private, dormitory style rooms. Bridge Housing will serve adults of all genders. Target populations will include individuals who are currently matched to a permanent housing resource and individuals who can't be served well by existing low-barrier shelters. Residents need to be referred through city systems.
The Assistant Operations Manager is a member of the management team of E Street. The Assistant Operations Manager supports the Operations Manager with the day-to-day operations and ensuring staff are effectively performing their duties and responsibilities. The position will supervise up to 4 Residential Assistants. The Assistant Operation Manager should work collaboratively with the overall management team to effectively run a fast-paced, safe environment. Additionally, the Assistant Manager is expected to lead their team by example and model appropriate and professional behaviors, while also providing guidance and support to their team members.
This is an in-person, on-site position.
The available shift for this position is Sunday - Thursday 11pm - 7am . However, there may be occasions when you are required to work outside of these hours.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Familiarity with the homeless services and housing landscape in Washington, DC.
  • Knowledge, experience, and ability to connect with individuals experiencing mental health issues and/or substance abuse.
  • Strong interest in and commitment to ending chronic homelessness in DC.
  • Strong communication skills and sense of boundaries.
  • An understanding of the structural and systemic causes of homelessness.
  • Flexibility, openness, and comfort working in a fast-paced environment with a diverse population of clients with a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences.
  • Effectively assist Operations Manager in leading E Street operations, client activities and overall shelter programs to meet agency mission.
  • Supervise Resident Assistant's, approve timesheets, and ensure adequate staffing levels for each shift.
  • Assist Operations Manager in coaching and professional development of employees.
  • Meet with residents to resolve disputes and de-escalate situations as necessary.
  • Serve as a point of contact with community partners.
  • Respond to phone calls from staff requiring guidance and/or support.
  • Defuse and de-escalate difficult situations involving clients and staff.
  • Assist Operations Manager to ensure accurate data entry of client information per contract requirements.
  • Attend all required trainings per contract requirements.
  • Participate in all scheduled leadership meetings.
  • Able to lift and/or carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Comfortable operating computers, inputting information into a database, and documenting case notes.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree (or 5 years experience in homeless services in lieu is acceptable with a lesser degree)
  • Prior experience working in services for homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, and/or case management for vulnerable populations.
  • A combination of education and experience to include at least 3 years of relevant work experience with a focus on one of the following areas: mental health, physical health, addictions, employment, trauma
  • At least 2 years of supervising of paid staff required. Experience supervising paraprofessional staff strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Physical Demands- Regularly required to sit; Regularly required to stand and walk in program areas during program service times to engage guests; frequently required to talk or hear; occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
Mental Demands - Ability to communicate (written and spoken) effectively in English is required.
Travel Demands - This position occasionally requires local travel between Miriam's Kitchen and partner sites. Where the need arises for business travel, appropriate compensation will be provided.
Salary Description
$68,000 - $74,000
