Job description

Job Summary:

Title: Royalties Associate Manager

Reports To: VP, Finance (Label)

Location: New York, NY (On-Site, 5 days a week in office)

The Role:

The Royalties Associate Manager will play a central role in the accurate calculation, processing, and reporting of royalties across Roc Nation's recorded music, distribution and licensing businesses. This individual will own royalty accounting for an assigned artist and label roster, working hands-on with contracts, statements, and recoupment schedules while partnering closely with Finance, Business & Legal Affairs and label operations.

This is an ideal role for a detail-obsessed, analytically strong royalties professional who wants to deepen their expertise in music royalty accounting while contributing directly to the financial integrity of a full-service entertainment company

Responsibilities:

Royalty Accounting & Statement Processing

  • Prepare and review royalty & joint venture statements for recording artists, producers, and third-party participants in accordance with contractual terms

  • Calculate royalty rates, advances, recoupment balances, and reserves across recorded music, digital distribution, licensing, and sync income

  • Maintain accurate artist and contract records within royalty accounting systems

  • Research and resolve royalty discrepancies, underpayments, and disputes raised by artists, managers, or attorneys

Financial Operations & Reporting

  • Support monthly and quarterly royalty accruals and reserve calculations in partnership with the broader Finance and Accounting teams

  • Assist with cash forecasting related to artist advances, recoupment, and royalty & joint venture payouts

  • Reconcile royalty data against distributor, DSP, and label revenue reporting to ensure accuracy

  • Contribute to audit readiness by maintaining organized, well-documented royalty files and calculations

Contract Interpretation & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Interpret recording, licensing, and distribution agreements to apply correct royalty rates, escalations, and deductions

  • Partner with Business & Legal Affairs to clarify contract terms and ensure royalty setups reflect deal terms accurately

  • Serve as a responsive point of contact for artist representatives and internal stakeholders on royalty-related questions

  • Collaborate with label management and A&R on artist account status, advances, and recoupment positions

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Identify opportunities to streamline the royalty & joint venture calculation processes, templates, and reporting workflows

  • Support system enhancements and testing for royalty accounting and reporting platforms

  • Assist with special projects, catalog acquisitions, and ad hoc financial analysis, as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Music Business, or a related field or equivalent work experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in royalty accounting, financial operations, or a related finance role, ideally within music, media, or entertainment

  • Working knowledge of recording contracts, licensing agreements, and royalty/recoupment concepts

  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, complex formulas); experience with royalty or ERP systems (e.g., Counterpoint, Vistex, or similar) a plus

  • Solid understanding of accrual accounting and reserve/recoupment mechanics

The expected compensation for this position is:

$92,000.00 USD - $115,000.00 USD
