Assistant Mechatronics Engineering information

What are Assistant Mechatronics Engineers?

Assistant Mechatronics Engineers are entry-level professionals who support senior engineers in designing, developing, and maintaining systems that integrate mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering. Their tasks often include assisting with prototyping, testing equipment, troubleshooting issues, and preparing technical documentation. They work in various industries, such as manufacturing, robotics, and automotive, to help ensure that mechatronic systems function efficiently. Typically, they work under the supervision of more experienced engineers while gaining practical experience and developing specialized skills.

What is the lowest salary for a mechatronics engineer?

The lowest salary for a mechatronics engineer typically starts around $50,000 to $60,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Entry-level positions or roles in smaller companies may offer salaries at the lower end of this range, especially for those with limited experience or certifications in robotics, control systems, or automation tools.

What can you do with mechatronics associates?

A mechatronics associate can work in designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated systems that combine mechanical, electrical, and software components. They often operate tools like PLCs and CAD software and may pursue certifications to enhance their skills. This role typically involves working in manufacturing, robotics, or automation environments.

What is the difference between Assistant Mechatronics Engineering vs Mechanical Engineering Technician?

AspectAssistant Mechatronics EngineeringMechanical Engineering Technician
Required CredentialsAssociate's degree or diploma in mechatronics or related fieldDiploma or associate's degree in mechanical technology
Work EnvironmentElectronics labs, manufacturing plants, automation settingsMachine shops, manufacturing facilities, maintenance departments
Employer & Industry UsageAutomation, robotics, electronics companiesManufacturing, mechanical maintenance, product testing

Assistant Mechatronics Engineering roles focus on integrating electronics, mechanics, and software, often working with automation systems. Mechanical Engineering Technicians primarily support mechanical systems and machinery. Both roles require technical education but differ in specialization and work environment, with Assistant Mechatronics Engineering emphasizing electronics and automation, while Mechanical Engineering Technicians focus on mechanical systems.

What are some common challenges faced by Assistant Mechatronics Engineers in their day-to-day work?

Assistant Mechatronics Engineers often encounter challenges related to troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems, integrating new technologies, and managing multiple project tasks simultaneously. They work closely with cross-functional teams, such as mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, which requires strong communication and collaboration skills. Adapting to rapidly changing project requirements and learning industry-specific tools or software are also typical hurdles, but these experiences provide valuable learning opportunities and foster professional growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Assistant Mechatronics Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Assistant Mechatronics Engineer, you need a solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering principles, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD software, PLC programming, robotics platforms, and simulation tools is commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication skills help you excel in collaborative and fast-evolving project environments. These competencies are crucial for developing, maintaining, and optimizing integrated mechatronic systems in modern engineering settings.

What engineers make $500,000?

Highly experienced engineers in specialized fields such as petroleum engineering, aerospace engineering, or certain senior roles in software engineering can earn $500,000 or more annually. These positions often require advanced skills, extensive experience, and sometimes leadership responsibilities or working in high-cost-of-living areas.

Is mechatronics well paid?

Mechatronics engineers typically earn competitive salaries that vary by industry, experience, and location. Entry-level positions often start with moderate pay, while experienced professionals with specialized skills in robotics, automation, or control systems can command higher salaries. Overall, it is considered a well-paying engineering field with good career growth prospects.

Job description

Radical AI is replacing an R&D process that currently takes 10+ years and $100 million to produce a single discovery. Our self-driving lab platform combines AI with autonomous robotics to run experiments, analyze results, and iterate-continuously, without human bottlenecks. For industries like aerospace, automotive, defense, energy, manufacturing, semiconductors, and space, that means breakthroughs in weeks instead of years.
As a Mechatronics Engineer at Radical AI you will serve as the bridge between Mechanical Engineering and Software to operationalize a suite of novel robotic and autonomous systems to drive a first of its kind material science research and discovery laboratory. You will help ideate scalable designs for driving and automating state of the art lab equipment in part by specifying motors, motor drivers, actuators, encoders, sensors, and control systems. You will drive the integration of electromechanical systems and the foundational power and control systems, equipment, and hardware to operate our equipment safely and reliably.
Your experience and vision will shape both the physical and systematic implementation of a lab-wide autonomous integrated control scheme. You will collaborate closely with Mechanical Engineering and Software to meet rigorous and sometimes dynamic design requirements at a profound deployment speed. You will maintain and optimize control system performance to meet throughput and reliability metrics that are critical to the success of the technology.
Mission
  • Contribute to and actualize the vision of the Mechanical Engineering team as we tackle solving complex and interconnected material handling challenges, and innovate novel solutions to automating the operation of existing equipment and systems.
  • Leverage your industry experience to instill team-wide adoption and utilization of 'right tool for the job' off-shelf solutions to accelerate the deployment of control, power, safety, and sensing systems.
  • Execute on the design and implementation of precision motion control systems and associated sensors and encoders.
  • Design and assemble the power and control cabinets to drive our systems with a focus on design flexibility and industry standard best practices for safety systems to protect our people and our technology.
  • Swiftly debug and trouble shoot electromechanical systems to maximize facility and equipment uptime. Help shape the culture of the hardware team by leading from the front and demonstrating a disciplined sense of organization, eye for detail, and an impeccable level of polish and craftsmanship.
  • Bring an attitude of collaboration and openmindedness, to facilitate fearless and creative problem solving that empowers our team to ship world class technology at an unprecedented speed.

About you
  • Minimum B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering or a closely related field
  • 3-5 years industry experience in robotics, industrial automation, or a closely related field
  • A strong fundamental understanding of electrical engineering and industry best practices
  • Competency with CAD software (we use SOLIDWORKS)
  • Experience with PLCs, motor drivers, and industrial automation
  • Knowledge of control systems, embedded systems, and automation technologies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
