What does a legal typist do?

A legal typist is responsible for accurately transcribing legal documents, such as court transcripts, contracts, and pleadings, often using specialized software and maintaining confidentiality. They must have strong typing skills, knowledge of legal terminology, and attention to detail to ensure documents are error-free and properly formatted.

Can you get paid just for typing?

Assistant Legal Typing jobs typically pay for the time spent transcribing or typing legal documents, often on an hourly or per-project basis. Payment depends on the employer, the complexity of the work, and whether the role is freelance or full-time, with some positions requiring specific typing speed and accuracy standards.

What is the typing speed for a legal assistant?

Legal assistants typically need a typing speed of at least 60 words per minute to efficiently handle document preparation and data entry. Many employers prefer candidates with a speed of 70 words per minute or higher, along with strong attention to detail and proficiency in legal software tools.

Can I work from home as a legal assistant?

Legal assistants can often work from home, especially for tasks like document preparation, data entry, and research, which primarily require a computer and internet access. However, some employers may prefer in-office work for tasks involving client interaction or court filings, so remote opportunities vary by employer and job requirements.
