JOB TITLE: Life Skills Instructor - (SGL)

DEPARTMENT: Residential SGL

SUPERVISOR'S TITLE: Residential Manager

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None

JOB STATUS: Full Time, Non-Exempt and Part-Time, Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE: Full-Time- Thursday: 10 pm-8 am; Friday: 9 pm-8 am; Saturday 8 pm- 8 am

                      or Part-Time- Wed/Thurs: 10 pm-8 am; Friday: 2 pm-9 pm; Saturday: 10 am-8 pm


Summary:

Provide direct support, instruction, and guidance to individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential setting. This role focuses on promoting independence, teaching daily living skills, and ensuring a safe, supportive home environment while encouraging community involvement and personal growth.


Key Responsibilities:

Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive home environment for residents

Provide instruction in daily living skills including personal care, social skills, money management, and household tasks

Support residents in developing independence and achieving individualized goals outlined in service plans

Assist with implementation of Individual Service Plans (ISP) and Person-Centered Plans

Monitor and document resident progress and goal achievement

Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all residents at all times

Participate in recreational and community activities with residents

Encourage positive community participation and relationship building

Support residents in exercising personal choice, independence, and rights

Assist with household management tasks as assigned

Promote dignity, respect, and positive interactions with all residents

Assist with coverage of shifts as needed (when applicable)


Qualifications & Skills:

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

Ability to teach, guide, and reinforce positive behaviors

Ability to build respectful and professional relationships with individuals served

Strong organizational and documentation skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Ability to support individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential setting


Physical & Work Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds or more

Ability to assist residents with physical support and daily living tasks

Ability to remain active throughout shift, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting

Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of vehicle insurance required

Ability to travel for trainings, meetings, and transportation of residents as needed


Certifications & Training Requirements:

Adult CPR and First Aid certification

Preventing Disease Transmission (Bloodborne Pathogens) certification

Core A & B Medication Training

CPI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) certification
