Objective
The responsibility of the Assistant Grower is to assist the Head Grower in executing various programs and processes throughout the production lifecycle focused around annual crop production. Work alongside crew members in all functional areas to ensure tasks are being completed in accordance with company standards and maintaining the vitality of all plants. This includes fertilizing, watering, as well as applying beneficals if needed. Communication with the Head Grower is required to review and prioritize daily task lists and assist Crew Leaders in the training and development of Greenhouse technicians.

  • Execute various plant programs developed by the Head Grower through the correct application and timing of products including pesticides, insecticides, and other biologicals to ensure plant vitality
  • Review and communicate Head Grower's daily task list to the Crew Leaders to ensure crew members are competing tasks in an accurate and timely manner
  • Assist the crew members in the execution of all delegated task list items
  • Provide training to new and existing horticultural technicians for tasks related to spacing, pinching, proper watering methods, fertilization and any biological applications, communicating any updates or changes to the production method
  • Identify and communicate any issues related to plant discrepancies, system issues, or process execution to the Head Grower or General Manager in a timely manner
  • Provide Head Grower with daily progress updates noting and communicating any adjustments to task priority
  • Review and evaluate the various processes, programs and staffing needs to offer informed recommendations to the Head Grower to improve and optimize the quality and production of products
  • Assist in the selection and movement of inventory as needed or directed by facility management
  • Complete all other tasks as assigned by management

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associates degree in horticultural sciences or other related field and 2+ years of industry or related academic experience required. Massachusetts Greenhouse Pesticide Applicator License preferred but not required. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel and Word.

This job operates in an active growing facility environment. This job may be either indoors or outdoors or both.
