Job description

The Corporate Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial, administrative, and regulatory compliance functions of a diversified holding company that owns and operates a trucking company, truck leasing company, heavy-duty truck repair facility, and parts inventory operation.   

This leadership role is accountable for the integrity of all financial reporting, treasury management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, asset depreciation schedule.  The Controller serves as a strategic business partner to ownership and executive leadership, providing financial analysis, operational insight, and organizational leadership to support growth and profitability across all business units.  

The ideal candidate combines strong accounting expertise with operational leadership experience in transportation, fleet management, maintenance operations, and leasing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

·       Financial Leadership & Accounting.   

•    Direct all accounting operations for 4 affiliated companies.

·       Payroll Administration via QuickBooks Enterprise  

•   Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.  

•   Prepare consolidated and entity-level financial statements.  

•   Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable accounting standards.  

•   Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.  

•   Analyze profitability by business unit, customer, fleet, and service line.  

•   Present financial reports and recommendations to ownership and executive leadership.  

•   Coordinate annual audits, tax preparation, and financial reviews.  

Accounts Receivable Management   

• Oversee billing, collections, and customer account management.  

• Monitor aging reports and collection activities. 

• Monitor freight billing, repair invoicing, lease payments, and intercompany receivables.

Accounts Payable & Purchasing  

• Manage vendor payment processes.

 • Establish purchasing controls and expense management procedures.  

• Negotiate vendor terms and monitor supplier performance. 

• Ensure timely payment of vendors, lenders, taxes, and other obligations. 

• Oversee fuel, parts, maintenance, equipment, and operating expense controls.  

Payroll  

• Oversee accurate payroll processing and payroll tax compliance.  

• Administer health insurance, retirement plans, and employee benefit programs.  

• Coordinate annual benefits renewals and employee enrollment. 

• Maintain compliance with labor laws and employment regulations. 

• Develop and maintain employee policies, handbooks, and HR procedures.  

Fleet, Leasing & Asset Management

• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.

• Assist leadership with capital planning and equipment replacement strategies.  

Inventory & Repair Shop Operations  

• Oversee inventory accounting and internal controls for parts and shop supplies. 

• Establish cycle count procedures and inventory reconciliation processes.

Internal Controls 

• Safeguard company assets and financial resources. 

• Manage insurance renewals.  

• Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.  

• Identify operational and financial risks and implement mitigation strategies.  

Leadership & Organizational Development   

• Establish performance standards and accountability measures. 

• Improve systems, workflows, and reporting processes.  

• Support strategic planning and business growth initiatives.  

• Serve as a trusted advisor to ownership and executive leadership.  

Qualifications Required 

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.  

• 5+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.  

• 3+ years of leadership experience managing accounting and administrative teams.  

• Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, treasury management, and internal controls.  

• Experience managing Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Depreciation Schedules. 

• Advanced proficiency with accounting software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel, including Importing & Exporting.  

• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.  

Preferred 

• CPA designation and/or Master’s Degree.  

• Experience in trucking, transportation, fleet management, leasing, repair facilities, or related industries.  

• Experience with inventory.  

• Understanding of multi-entity company structure.
