An assistant engineer works alongside a senior engineer throughout a project. The job is often used to gain work experience by recent college graduates at the beginning of their career. Position Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Engineer position. Applications will be screened after the following filing deadlines at 5PM: 4/13/26, 4/28/26, 5/25/26 The Assistant Engineer is the journey-level class in the engineering series. Under general supervision, incumbents are expected to be proficient in performing difficult assignments in routine planning, design, technical investigations, and field/construction projects.
This position holds no supervisory responsibility but may provide technical direction to paraprofessional engineering personnel or Engineer/Architect Student Interns. An Assistant Engineer may serve as a resident engineer on smaller, less complex field/construction projects. Incumbents in these positions typically receive direction from an Associate Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineer, who is the lead level engineer in this series.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Either: 1. Graduation with a bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, electrical, or environmental engineering, or a closely related field accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Or:2.
