Job description

Divisional Controller

Chattanooga, TN | On‑Site

Industry: Transportation / Logistics

Lead the numbers. Influence the business. Build scalable finance. We are partnering with a growing transportation/logistics organization to identify a Divisional Controller who will own financial reporting, analytics, and controls for an assigned division while working closely with executive leadership to drive smarter business decisions. This role is ideal for a strong hands‑on Controller who enjoys translating financial data into operational insight and leading teams through close, reporting, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do:

As Divisional Controller, you’ll serve as the primary financial leader for your division, balancing technical accounting, operational partnership, and leadership.

  • Own and coordinate the monthly close process for an assigned division, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and strong internal controls
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and executive‑level presentations
  • Partner with business unit leaders to explain results, trends, and drivers behind performance
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting activities, including analysis of departmental and divisional data
  • Identify opportunities to automate, streamline, and document accounting and reporting processes
  • Supervise and review work of Senior and Staff Accountants as assigned
  • Review, approve, and certify reconciliations and journals within the Blackline system
  • Support internal and external audits, including preparation of schedules and documentation
  • Assist with cross‑divisional reporting, complex journal entries, and executive projects
  • Maintain and manage general ledger structures and ensure policy compliance

Why This Opportunity:

  • High‑impact role with visibility to executive leadership
  • Blend of hands‑on accounting and strategic business partnership
  • Opportunity to improve processes and drive efficiencies, not just “keep the books”
  • Stable organization with ongoing growth and investment
  • Limited travel and a professional office environment

If you value impact in a family centered organization with a strong track record of performance and growth prospects, please apply today to discuss further!

What They’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 2+ years of people leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting
  • Proven ability to manage close deadlines and multiple priorities
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to clearly communicate financial results
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Transportation or logistics experience is preferred, but not required
