The Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics business provides leading naval computing infrastructure, network and data distribution and middleware enterprise services, as well as world-class manufacturing and support capabilities.

Job Summary

We're seeking an Assistant Controller to support the financial operations of our Naval Electronics' business unit. This is a high-impact leadership role for an accounting professional who brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and a hands-on approach to financial reporting, compliance, controls, and operational support.

In this role, you will help ensure the integrity of the business unit's financial processes and reporting while partnering with leadership to support forecasting, cost analysis, compliance, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate understands the pace and discipline of a manufacturing environment and can operate effectively within a regulated government contracting setting.

This position can be based out of one of the following Naval Electronics' locations (hybrid schedule eligible / routine onsite requirements apply):

  • Submarine Combat Systems Center of Excellence - Twin Cities, MN
  • Computing and Networks Center of Excellence - Johnstown, PA
  • Sensors Center of Excellence - Largo, FL
Job Responsibilities

As Assistant Controller, you will support the management, administration, and control of financial activities for the business unit. You will help lead accounting operations, maintain strong internal controls, and provide financial insight that supports operational and strategic decision-making. 

  • Support financial management activities for the business unit, including accounting operations, reporting, controls, and compliance
  • Help prepare and review daily, monthly, quarterly, annual, and other periodic financial statements and reports
  • Ensure internal and external financial reporting is accurate, timely, and in compliance with applicable requirements
  • Support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of accounting processes, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain effective financial information and control systems, including general ledger, budgeting, cost allocation, and related subsystems
  • Partner with business unit and senior leadership to support financial planning, forecasting, and performance analysis
  • Review and interpret financial and budgetary reports, including forecasts, trends, variances, and operating results
  • Conduct cost, ratio, trend, and comparative analyses to support business decisions and improve performance
  • Help ensure accounting records and reports comply with GAAP, government regulations, and company policy
  • Support accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions related to a manufacturing and government contracting environment
  • Assist with external reporting requirements, filings, and audit support, ensuring submissions are complete and timely
  • Serve as a resource to leaders and cross-functional partners on accounting practices, reporting requirements, and internal controls
  • Help direct, prioritize, and evaluate departmental work to support efficient operations
  • Mentor team members and contribute to a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Qualifications

We're looking for a finance and accounting leader who can balance technical rigor with practical business partnership in a regulated manufacturing setting.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience with 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
    • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, general ledger management, and financial analysis
  • Understanding of government regulations and reporting requirements
  • Ability to analyze financial results and communicate insights clearly to leadership
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Experience supporting audits, compliance reviews, and external reporting requirements

The salary range for this position is ($105,000/year- $175,000).  This range reflects the good faith estimate of pay the employer is willing to offer at the time of posting. Several factors can influence the pay scale, including but not limited to: Federal contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location, business considerations, scope, and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate's qualifications such as prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for: annual performance-based bonuses, equity awards, and overtime pay (for non-exempt employees as applicable.
